There are a lot of really beautiful buildings in Detroit that have been reclaimed by nature -a lot of them churches. It's sad, but they make for beautiful pictures. Here's another one.

These abandoned churches are almost always haunted...
If that church was near me those windows would not be in there. Something that beautiful needs to be cleaned up and put in an active church
I read once that many beautiful old homes in Detroit were available for $1 from the city. They wanted folks to come and gentrify the area. Of course the rampant crime and corruption in government are problematic 
This is what has consumed me for the last couple of days. I had a leak develop in my plumbing at my well. It is all original 1991 stuff (including the pump

One thing led to another and I said screw this crap and replaced from the well cap out to the ground. First time pulling a well pump up a bit, since I was a boy with my uncle, and I was SO paranoid about the pipe and pump getting away from me when the cap was off. That would be very bad if it went down toward China. Gorilla Tape and rope as a safety
The leak was about 1” above the concrete in the floor of the well house and required me to drill down beside/around it and then chip/vacuum it out to get enough virgin material to repair. I am very glad I didn’t have to dig it all up.
I wrapped with pipe insulation and foil tape. Since it was completely uninsulated before it should be fine going forward. Heat from the ground is a real thing even in the teens. It sits in a concrete housing with a lid.
I had put in a new pressure tank last year but the pressure switch and gauge were original so I decided to replace them while I was at it. Now everything is pretty much new except the poly in the ground.
Living without water for 2 days made me really appreciate it. I sent my wife to go see her parents so it was just me and a bucket of creek water for flushing

When I was on the Oxnard Fire Dept I had a part time business building stain glass windows, it is amazing that window is as intact as it is with the other obvious damage…….what a shame.

I had business in Detroit and one of my customers had bought in on it. I don't remember it being $1 but it was dirt cheap, just to get people to move in and renovate. This has made me rethink a few things on my emergency water strategy.
So this year I went and got a Harbor Freight backup gas generator ($700) that I'm about to convert to run on propane, and have an electrician install a cut-over switch to run the well house on. The generator only has one 240V circuit, but we have two 240V pumps, so I've got a cheap ($200) backup booster pump (also from HF) that runs on 120V that will get switched to when the backup power comes on.
Our current booster pump is 15+ years old, so this setup will also give me time to replace it when it gives up the ghost.
Cheap enough compared to the repair bill last year.
My generator setup is a 14L inlet box with 10g running to the main panel and a dedicated generator breaker. It’s a 6500w, will run the well pump and mini-split and everything except the range, clothes dryer and water heater.
It WILL run the water heater if I make sure HVAC is off and well pump breaker is off, so I cycle things to get a hot shower and I’m ok with that LOL.
Be aware, propane gets gobbled very fast compared to gasoline. When we finally build a new house here I plan on a Kubota diesel gennie.
How big diesel generator? For backup use I would make sure it's under DEF required size (don't remember sizes where Def is required. Also don't know much about diesels.)
A 10k is plenty for backup and uses less fuel than a huge one.
For tractors it’s 26hp….which is why I ordered an L2501 instead of a larger engine just before Christmas. Can’t wait

This is one I am considering. It’s an open design so easier to work on. Liquid cooled, 3 cyl. No after treatment on exhaust. Should run forever.

If you don’t know much about diesels why wouldn’t you want Def?
75hp is the cut off for def, that would be a hell of a generator, about 40kw.
10kw is “plenty” for what is the question…and that tractor would barely give 10kw with a PTO generator.A 10k is plenty for backup and uses less fuel than a huge one.

With DEF comes a whole slew of pollution management systems. EGR’s (exhaust gas recirculator) DPF (diesel Particulate Filter) DEF tank heaters, extra sensors. Just more shit to break, not to mention those sensors are hard to get when they break now.
Emissions shit has ruined the Diesel engine.

Not running a generator with it, I was implying I chose it so it wouldn’t have a particulate filter.
10k will run all necessary things in an emergency without going broke buying propane for a Generac.
Yeah I’m a fan of Japanese diesels. I just sold my 1980 Shibaura and it never broke. Just oil, filters and coolant changes.
Well…why would you ever have a diesel (or gas) standby generator for a residential application? LP way better option. Now a generator that you go out and use is different. But like I said, who has a 75+HP diesel backup generator? That’s yuge.
Much more fuel efficient, runs at 1800 rpm so quieter/will last longer and liquid cooling is common. I’m out in the boonies and keep diesel here anyway.
Power seldom goes off for more than an hour at a stretch around here so I dont have a dedicated backup generator, I just use my Lincoln Ranger 225 when the need arises.
It has a max output of 10,000 watts and will run the whole house no problem in winter. Summertime is a bit different though, should the A/C, water heater and well happen to kick in at the same time it usually trips the breaker. Keeping the water heater off until its needed solves the problem.
Fuel consumption is 2.3 gal/hr or right at 11 hours per tank under normal load.
If I ever do get dedicated backup generator it will be PTO driven 15,000 watt unit so I dont have to worry about overloading and tripping breakers.
That and it's one less engine i have to worry about maintaining.

Put a lot of research into PTO generators, finally decided against it for the variable loads I’d be putting on it. None of my tractors has a cruise control that would handle it and the resultant variable frequencies are too likely to damage something expensive.
Bobcat 250 here, I’ve never actually needed it for the house (yet). But I’ve put some serious time on it and glad for the capabilities it has, 11.5 surge so similar to your Lincoln.

If you're running it in an emergency it's easier to store just diesel or get more diesel than getting more diesel and def. Farmers and others like them are more likely to have diesel in a tank and might not necessarily have the def. My uncle was a dairy farmer in Central Utah and he had a diesel tank. That was way before def but still. Def might be harder to get a hold of and no def no running is how I believe they work.
Dad has a 8kw gasoline generator converted to natural gas for use as backup in Houston. They've been there since 96. Getting gasoline when there's no power is basically impossible. No power to run the pumps at the gas station if they even have any gasoline. Gas generators can run through quite a bit over the hours of running. My parents have never had the natural gas stop. Gas stove, gas water heater, gas fireplace. Gas generator you're good as long as it's plumbed in (at least for them). Lawless is more rural.
What I meant about not knowing much about diesels is I've never owned one, or worked on one, or know the limits where things are required off the top of my head. I have read most of the tractor threads, the generator threads, and quite a few of the truck threads that have been in the Bear Pit over the last few years. I've learned that I have no need for a diesel vehicle. I'm good with my Taco.
