In 1969, I worked a summer at the AZ State hospital when it was still a mental institution. I worked in Adult Education and taught general education classes for the 'residents' so they could earn their GEDs. I saw a lot of really f'd up people. I toured the men's psych ward once. That was really f'd up.PS… up until 50 years ago people acting this way would have been locked away. Or had the common sense to practice their perversions in secret. 100 years ago, they would have been medically addressed with lobotomy or shock therapy. 200 years ago they would have been banished or burned.
I say let’s go back 200 years! After all, we have a National anniversary coming up.

Fast forward to 1993. I'm in downtown Seattle working a gig setting up software in a print shop near the Space Needle. I saw the same shit, but now it was 'on the street', self medicating. Same scene in Portland in '97.
Yup, in the old days I could go home and the residents were safely locked away for another day.
All I can say is 'Electro Shock Therapy'. For some of these folks I would start at about 5KV for 3 minutes or so - problem solved
OBTW, in 1969, I was 15. Talk about waking the shit up experiences. Probably why when someone tells me they are mt worst nightmare, I tell them they don't even make it to a bad daydream level.
