Good run-and-gun Pants

So, while I was at Ft. Sam Houston I went ahead and purchased a pair of 5.11 TacLight Pants; I freakin' love them so far (but I've owned them for only about a week).

My question is this: what pants will stand up to heavy wear-and-tear, are comfortable, breathe, are suited to hot (and cold) weather, and able to carry the essentials of a guy in the field.

Im a big fan of Vertx. Have been wearing them for a long time now and have put them through hard use.

They have standard and lightweight pairs. The standard is slightly thicker then normal but still not hot. The lightweights are great if its hot as hell out.

By far some of the best designed and athletic cut pants IMO.

After years of wearing 5.11 issued pants I tried out Woolrich Elite Tactical and I now give away my issued 5.11 and buy my own Woolrich. They're cut much better to allow movement and I prefer the pocket placement and design. They have both heavyweight and a lightweight version.

I like all 3 brands mentioned. I run 5.11 tac lites now and the crotch is a little restricting. I have VERTX heavies also. They are nice but wish they had more pockets. The Woolrich elites were my favorite, but they are harder to find for me.

I went from Crye to Arcteryx, the 5.11 been there done that, until now I use TAD.

Their cut works the best for me, the amphibious Cargo for light weight or the Force 10 for a heavy weight.

Their jackets and hoodies are great too. I love my Preatorian Sweater.

They're not great for hot and humid, but the only long pants I wear are Duluth Trading Company Fire Hose Work Pants. They're very tough, flexible, and comfortable, and have pockets everywhere. The cargo pockets are big and don't bulge like crazy. The available colors are subdued but still nice looking. It's the only pants I can carry a mid sized handgun in the front hip pocket and not have it wear a hole in a few weeks. I used to exclusively wear Carhartts but would usually blow out the knees, or pockets from my CCW in a month or two. The Duluth pants last many many months and when they do wear out just send them back and they'll replace them for FREE. The Duluth pants can be ordered in just about any size so even a tall skinny guy like me can get a pair that fits. My wife always makes fun of how much my pants weigh because you can carry so much stuff in the pockets and not even notice it's in there...

Granted, they're not as nice looking and lightweight as TAD stuff etc, but for an everyday working man pant, that doubles as a hella tough tactical pant they work great for me.

Huge 2nd. Nothing even touches the TAD Force 10's. Just wish they still offered the Black Label versions.

The TADs are just too expensive right now.

I like the Vertex and the Woolrich pants and may try a pair of each of them.

I like my Propper BDU's. Cotton/Poly rip-stop blend for durability and easy care. Reinforced in all the right places.

I also like the waist drawstring in combo with a rubberized strip inside the waistband to help keep the pants in place and a shirt tucked in.

The bloused cuffs can be a bit off-putting for some when used as daily wear, but I don't care. If I need to meet a client on-site I'll wear khakis, but a wear the BDU's day to day, and don't give a flip whether anyone thinks they look too 'tacticool.'

i like my 5.11 tactical in multicam. were stiff at first but after a few times out and a few washes they are very comfortable now.

LOL, just kidding, love my TAD gear too. It's expensive until you own it, then it all makes sense. High quality and well thought out gear.

Love the Woolrich as well, but have 3 pairs of the cheapies from LA Police Gear & haven't had any issues. Have worn them hiking or to the range alot. For the money they would be throw away items if they did tear, which none have so far.

Rob - Any reason not to get the ones with the sewn in knee pads? Maybe a better question is which ones have better padding? I've got bad knees and need all the help I can get!

I have used 5.11's for years and like them but they seem to last me only a year if that. I have a few pairs of the LAPG pants but the fit doesn't quite feel right on me. Now I pretty much just run carhartt's or the above mentioned "tactical blue jeans".

Kitanica there expensive but by far the best pants I have ever wore. Also noted that Rob Furlong was wearing them in the new article about best modern snipers DVD just being released. I wear them all the time and they are worth ever single cent. I have about 10 pair of them.

Yep, TAD is top notch. I have 4 of their jackets and a couple pairs of their pants, yes they are expensive but so is a $2k scope. Buy once cry once.

I like being able to remove the pads so i can wash the pants without the padding in there.
