Haven't listened to a radio station in 10 years. With the streaming platforms out there, there's no need to listen to someone elses choice of enjoyable music. I do miss the great FM stations that we used to listen to back in the late 60's and 70's.
Love Robert Cray...I just saw him on his latest anniversary tour...was amazing.

This is from The Last Waltz. The Last Waltz was a concert and a movie filmed at the Winterland in SF in 1976. It was the last hurrah (or waltz haha) of The Band and was filmed by Martin Scorsese and is probably one of the best concert films ever made. The concert was over two days and featured a pantheon of great rock musicians doing their songs as well as The Band playing most of their greatest hits.
This clip features Paul Butterfield (as in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band) with Levon Helms doing Mystery Train. This is just one of the great bits in this movie.
P.S. I have no idea what happened for a while in the middle of the video to the image quality....then it cleared up. This wasn't like this in the film I saw.

Ok, I'm on a Last Waltz roll here....now, I've never been much of a Joni Michell fan...until I saw this tune played live in The Last Waltz. The tune is called Coyote and, I believe, its about Sam Shepard who she apparently had a fling with.
Yeah, Joni Mitchell....but look at her...listen to what she can do with that vocal instrument of hers. I just think this bit is outstanding.

Joan Baez originally wrote "Diamonds and Rust" and it was a lengthy composition.
Then, Judas Priest turned it into a heavy metal supersonic blast.
Later, they went back to an acoustic version and this one is my favorite. This is the version I cover when I do this song.

That one is my favorite of theirs. My wife's favorite of theirs is "Train."
It’s amazing how someone can take a song and make it sound better than the original artist. Like Dusty Springfield with Son of a Preacherman or Linda Rondstadt with Blue Bayou.
Levon was the man, IMO....and he had little patience for Scorsese and star washed, blow dried, Robbie Robertson.
Great performance and great song.

Grew up listening to the Band and was fortunate enough to see them in concert several times. Never a big fan of Robbie Robertson and always felt Levon was the heart and soul of the band. The last Waltz is a great collection of performances and my favorite is Caravan by Van the Man.
That was a GREAT bit right there, yeah. Though Morrison really shouldn't try to dance...was probably high as a kite haha
Side story about the Neil Young bit....apparently he was back stage hammering the blow and had a rock of coke visibly stuck in his nostril when they filmed his performance of "helpless"...so they invented the traveling booger matte" effect to cover it up.
Also, during that performance, there is a female back up singer in dark silhouette. You can't see who it is....but it was Joni Mitchell
