Mike from CSGunworks gave me a call this afternoon to come pick up my Premier 5-25! It is Christmas in July!

First impressions:

Glass: W0W! Very very nice.
Physical Size: Big scope but not over kill big. Feels very sturdy in the hands and is plain beefy.

Controls: The 5-25x has bigger flippers on the knobs for zeroing and comes with a Butler Creek in the front.

Gen II XR: Very nice and I like how fine the reticle is. Even on 25X it was not that bad at distance. This is my first go at Mil/Mil so we will see how I adapt.

Mike also hooked me up with Badger 34mm USMC rings to nest this bad boy in. Scope will be mounted on my GAP 243win. Full range report in a week or so.

Thanks again Mike for the hook up and great customer service as always.

Whoa. Didnt realize it would be that much bigger than the 3-15. You dont happen to have a PMII 5-25 to compare it to do you?

That is the first time I have seen a 3-15 beside a 5-25.

Looks awesome.

Re: Got my Premier Heritage 5-25x56 Gen 2 XR in!!!

Man everyone is getting them! I should have ordered through Scott or Mike instead of Premier.

I can ask Mike to do something. He has every scope known to man.

What height rings did you get?

They did away with the ridge for their caps on the objective and supply with the BC on the 5-25's (which I was actually glad to hear!).

I agree. I can get a BC cap anywhere if needed.

Not when Premier already has my money. I was one of the pre SHOT deposit people back in Jan, actually I paid in full. Just waiting now.

Re: Got my Premier Heritage 5-25x56 Gen 2 XR in!!!

I am glad they went with the BC cover on the front especially with the 56mm objective because the other style might have made getting it to work with 1" height rings would be tough with heavier weight barrels. Nothing wrong with BC caps.

Re: Got my Premier Heritage 5-25x56 Gen 2 XR in!!!

I should be able to check one out up close and personal today at the gtg in Alvin. There should be a ton of high end optics there for people to look at.

Re: Got my Premier Heritage 5-25x56 Gen 2 XR in!!!

Man I need to find out what you guys do for a living that can own 4+ USOs or S&Bs or prepay for a Premier. I must have made a bad choice in college.

USO makes a 56mm S&B sunshade/ARD that fits the Premier (I asked Scott at LO the same question and that's what he told me, so I'm assuming the PR's 56mm obj housing is same size/thread as S&B).

That and you would have to go up in height on your rings. With Medium High USMC rings that scope will BARELY clear an MTU contour barrel. With the ridge, you would have another 1/4 inch in height to clear. Its also easier to add accessories (sunshade or ARD) to the end of that scope without the ridge.

I called USO last month about one for the 56mm S&B (The premier uses the same threads). They don't have any in stock and probably wont unless we get a group together to make it worth their while. Anyone else want one?

LOL.....Like I said Mikey took care of me big time. However to be fair I did dropped 50% with Mike when I heard about the scope.

Oh and being 2 minutes away from his shop helps as well. I get to check all the new toys when they get in. I got the UPS schedule down for Mike's place. LOL

USO makes <span style="font-weight: bold">Sunshades'</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold">ARD</span>s' (Anti-Reflection Devices') for both the 50mm and 56mm S & B PMIIs', and Ian Kenney over at <span style="font-weight: bold">Premier Reticles</span> told me that those same units will also fit the respective <span style="font-weight: bold">Premier Heritage 3-15X 50mm</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold">Premier Heritage 5-25X 56mm</span> scopes as well.

These Sunshades' and ARDs' are made specifically for the Schmidt & Bender 50mm and 56mm Objective scopes and are a perfect fit. USO did a run of the 2.0" 50mm S & B Sunshades' and ARDs' for <span style="font-weight: bold">dfar</span> not too long ago. Since USO only runs them when ordered you should buy what you need if <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">dfar</span></span> has them in stock. These units are typical, bulletproof USO quality. <span style="font-weight: bold">The OAL is 2.25"</span>, <span style="font-style: italic">while the installed length is 2.0"</span> (.25" threads into the Objective end of the scope).

The <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Sunshade</span></span> consists of a 2.25" black hard anodized Type III aluminum housing with one end threaded .25" to mate to the scope objective. The <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">ARD</span></span> consists of the same 2.25" black hard anodized Type III aluminum housing with a very efficient honeycomb epoxied into place. You can get a <span style="font-weight: bold">SUNSHADE ONLY</span> or an <span style="font-weight: bold">ARD</span> but if you want both you will need to buy one of each since the honeycomb is non-removable from the housing.

Personally, I would just get an ARD. The ARD helps keep the objective clean and actually helps with contrast in bright sunlight - the glass and the coatings on the S & B (and I'm sure the Premiers' as well) are so efficient there can actually be too much light at times. I've also noticed this with my SN-3.

Congrats on the scope that's a real beauty!! I had the privilege to look through one the other day, all I can say is I got to have one!!

20, 30 and 40 moa will work. Depending on the rifle you may not get a 100 yard zero with a 40moa base, but a 200 or 300 yard zero may be okay for a 338LM or 375CT.

For what? To get to 1000 yards with most any round? No, as they have 103 MOA of internal elevation which gives you 51.5 MOA of up from center. That said, you can use up to a 40 MOA base on these scopes and using a scope base with 20/30/40 MOA in it will keep your erector more centered in the tube and with more MOA of windage when at the farther ranges.

Here are some pics of the beast the range.

I had a chance to shoot it out to 1K last Friday and it is a pretty sweet piece of glass.

Going Mil/Mil is a bit of a change for me but I'll get the hang of it soon.
