K-Bars Half-Face Blades enthusiasts thread

Just picked up this Disaster Jr. third hand. It has been owned and carried by an active duty AF guy, then bought by my friend (AF vet), and then on to me (USN/ARNG vet). It has maintained its military lineage quite well. I love these damn things.

Absolute unit! This is reminiscent of older breachers; heavy and thick.

Really nice piece, Widow Makers are a great looking shape, and the treatment on that one is so nice, you nailed it’s description. 🤙

Thanks Buddy! It is the best feeling blade in hand. Heavy, very positive grip, and the craftsmanship and beauty is out of this world. Slowly I am going towards older customs of there’s.

Widows have become my main focus now; there are not as many custom split widows out there as other models of HFB’s. Hard to find them, or even see a photo of one in the wild.

I have also been hunting an older Ironwood widow like the originals they made. Before the wood handles were ground down more. Never have I seen one out in the wild or in any persons pics (Besides the iron widow product photo).

If anyone has one I’d love to see a picture of it in the wild!

Sooo…after seeing a post here by sirhrmechanic showing a HFB knife he got from a buddy placed against a bronze sculpture as he likes to do adding interesting backdrops/accompaniment (see page 19), on February 23rd after researching I decided to acquire that same subject bronze. At the end, Sirhr’s 18” Limited Edition was no longer available, only the 16” Open Edition was…as I could tell the 18” photo was duplicated on the open edition detailing meaning there was no photo of an actual 16” piece to view, so I knew it would be an “unknown”, I trusted that Douwe’s artistry and dedication to subject matter to make it great..and it just arrived this week and I love it. While the 18”, with its greater detailing in many ways and is stunningly amazing to me, this 16” is 32lbs. of visual beauty, and carries emotional impact…an incredible piece to me. It represents many things to me, above them all is it’s memorializing of The 12-man Operational Detachment Alpha 595 (ODA 595) team, along with two Air Force combat controllers…real events and shear dedication of those men on the earliest campaigns into Afghanistan after 9/11..the mission and the determination that made it uniquely unusual by using the trusty Afghanistan stallions that were essential to the campaign's success. The mounted US troops became known as the "horse soldiers". But, it also runs deeper than all of that for me, but I’ll leave it there. So the original pic on the site is different from the piece I have, for many reasons,..each piece is actually unique from each other alone, then there’s the whole different size mold & casting.. nonetheless it’s fantastically detailed and beautifully evocative..and “right”, surprisingly similar to the 16’ “America’s Response Monument” now overlooking Ground Zero Memorial. It’s an investment in my own life & home and I have it proudly placed where I & anyone else will see it coming and going everyday. I love it! Very glad I did it! A very real thanks to Sirhr..Cheers! And of course to Douwe Blumberg! If you “Wikki” “America’s Response Monument”, check out the whole thing, it’s real interesting..especially the “Production” segment…Douwe is a Patriot in the truest form that will be evident when you read what he did and how he handled the total of 18” statues produced.

This picture really doesn’t capture the actual subtitles of texturing and coloring of the piece, it’s beautiful in person…

Actual dimensions: From tabletop 18” tall, 17” long, 11” deep….Bronze only is 16” tall, 15 1/4” long, 10” deep. It’s fantastic to own one of Douwe’s works. 🤙 Z~

😐I think I should of shortened this 😖 by like…🤔 90%…

Arrived today excellent knife. Decided to give it to my daughters boyfriend as a congratulations for getting promoted to captain last week. But will have to wait until he gets back from Afgahistan.

Any tricks to getting in on these drops other than being at your computer hitting refresh? Really hoping to pop my HFB cherry and pick up a SHPOS folder on the next drop...
It is tough I got one a month ago and this past weekend tried as fast as I could got one into my cart and am already a customer and within 2 minutes all was gone and I didn’t get anything.

You probably get a few inputs on this (I hope)…seems a like great source of info on drops is their Instagram..they have Facebook also, but the gram seems solid from what hear (I need to get an acct myself just for their info hits). Or call them and hit Kelsie girl…she’s great when you can catch her there, email can work too..<[email protected]>

ROUGH now for sure, no wonder EBay seems to be flourishing and it just bothers me those prices but they are getting them, I doubt I’ll ever go that route because of it. Z~

Tried to pick up a "Sea Shank" on URTs website as they had a collab with HFB. The dropped 3 minutes earlier than they said they would and sold out in 4 minutes. I missed out. Really like the look of it, especially the "Multicam Grey" one they had.

Wow…Those look real nice, quite the shape and point on that, a “sticker” for sure. It pains me knowing it’s such a slim line on any chances to just literally “snag” ANYTHING now! Hate hearing that. Z~

What I end up doing is setting an alarm for 10 minutes prior to the weekly Saturday drop. I get on the website and add something small to the cart and go all the way through the payment screen and then back out to the store to continue shopping. So when it comes time for the knivs to drop, my payment is good to go and I just need to add the security code.

I've kind of given up on HFB. Received an e-mail 2 weeks ago that SHPOS folders were going to drop last Saturday at 12:00. Went to the sight at 11:55. SHPOS wasn't in the first drop. Hit refresh every 10 seconds for like 40 minutes. Nothing. Went to make myself a sandwich. Decided to come back a little after 1:00 just to see if anything else had dropped. SHPOS had in fact dropped and were of course completely sold out. Don't really need this aggravation when I am trying to spend $$$.

Frustration is understandable...hope you find product you love out there, it’s around no doubt.. I think I might get in the game today, even though I don’t really need more I always love more, got 6 HFB’s (2 spikes, 1 EDC Gulo, 1 Custom Damascus Gulo, the first collaboration w/Kinetic “The Dagger” Dive Knife they did, & 1 very base level Bleeding Heart) so not totally lacking for an edge. Maybe try, get lucky, actually get a gift for a loved one/recent grad….Z~

Widowmaker Unicorn.

-Ironwood handles, Black G10 liners, Mosaic pins.

Absurdly stunning job done on these wood handles; more of a honey tone to the Ironwood than most others. The steel on this one may not be the usual steels used; the blade is thinner than other widows, yet a lot heavier.

Ironwood never gets old!

Just noticed you said Rose Gold in that Mosaic..even nicer didn’t know that was available, 🤙😎
I didn’t know either until I got it in hand, very beautiful mosaics! The description on the spalted breacher had a bunch of stuff left out of it originally. These are the first ones I’ve seen first hand, might be a new pin that they are implementing.

Im looking for steel mosaic pins on pieces now, don’t have any. Also seems they have done less of those.

Wish there was a photo library of all their pins!

Yep, I like stainless myself..which I had them incorporate into my custom Gulo-Gulo shown earlier in thread.

🤙 Love it. My only custom so far. 🤙There wasn’t a lot of choice at the time there in stainless and I had them orient it this way as opposed to pot-luck. I think your’s goes real well and it’s got lots of details in it.. a nice contrast AND compliment to the spalted figuring, very nice piece.

What an incredible piece buddy! Showpiece 100%!!

Is is micarta, African Blackwood and onyx? I always enjoy guessing the splits!

Dont ever let that one go! Love seeing some of the customs people have had done, vs the ones they drop. There is always a story, and uniqueness to these pieces. Thank-you for showing it.

Honestly, at first before I got the Spalted Breacher in hand I had semi thought it would not be my jam. After in hand, it was just a piece you can’t explain why you like it. I’ve now started hunting other spalted pieces too for my collection.

Exquisite Widowmaker-

-Spalted Beech Wood Bolster, Polished Black G10 Texture Grip, Natural Micarta Striping, Brass Mosaic Pins, Brass Lanyard Pin, Black G10 Liners

What a beast this Widow is; one of the few polished G10’s out in the wild. Heavy and perfectly ground like older Widows.

Outstanding piece, love “black” major, counterpoint of smaller beautiful wood, the Micarta looks like a mosaic itself, great piece, really great. 🤙 Z~
Thank-you!

The Red Cloud is very heavy in the handle, with excellent hand alignment when gripping. Never thought I’d be a fan of the red cloud design. Huge fan now!

The polished g10 on the Widow is a new favorite! Have the same polished G10 on the white turquoise Widow I posted a while ago. The transition into the splits from the black is spectacular. Wish there were more of these around! You are 100% right on that micarta, crazy reflective and different looks at different angles.

The handles they put out are pure art! Functional art.

Sometimes raw, brutal, earth like is needed with Half Face Blades! Micarta is one of my favorite handle materials, and this Widow is one of my go to blades in my collection.

The OD Widowmaker

-OD Micarta, Carbon Fiber Pins, Acid Etched & Stone Washed, Rock Work Spine, Chaos Grip

This blade can be attributed to the amazing Kelsie; she truly is a badass who always try’s to help everyone regardless of circumstances, and has helped this community more than even spoken of!
