Can you dm me some more pics of the rifle? Been trying to decided if i want to rebarrel my rifle with a light palma or medium palma. Have an m24 on it right now and it is way to damn heavy. Want to see how that light palma looks

I just bought this one off a member in the classifieds here a few weeks ago...a slick little Howa 1500 in .223. It's a dream to shoot.
18" 1/12 barrel, same Timney trigger as my duty rifle, riding in a B&C stock. I added a Primary Arms 4-14x FFP, and it gets along fine with my Yankee Hill Resonator K on a QD mount.
I like it a lot. Shoots Black Hills 40gr into groups you can cover with a quarter at 100 yards off the bipod and squeeze bag, and crappy Federal 55gr range ammo's covered by a half dollar. Looking forward to load development. Apologies for the potato-quality camera.

The mag in the picture is a metal MDT 10 rounder. I got it from Short Action Precision, they have them in stock for $70. The polymer MDT 10 rounders for $40 work just fine also.

Ruger RPR 223 AI. It’s a hoot to shoot running 75gr ELDM at around 3000fps.
I am a professional photographer/videographer by trade so the editing, timing and color grading is the extra but this is all done with iPhone 12pro phoneskope connected to Vortex viper HD 15-45x60 spotter for the target cam and GoPro hero 6 on shooter cam. all edited in final cut proX software. I need to use my Sony mirrorless cameras as the shooter cam for better video quality but don’t want to haul the expensive cameras to the range every time
I made and sold these for almost 2yrs. They were definitely available. I know when I mentioned I was gonna do it, it took me/us 2mths to have the first working version.
Greg added a few cool changes, should hit the market very soon.
True, but I've only had an AI for a year or two, I was a bit late to the party... I was one of the few that ordered one of Sam's Accuracy Obsession chassis' before owning an AI because I've never been a huge fan or their ergos. Anyway, cool to hear that the kits might be available soon, thanks.

My .223 has been through a number of different variations, but as someone else said earlier… is it really a “trainer” if it’s your most shot/well-used rifle?

I ponder taking it every match instead of my 6mm and pretending to be a hero for the day with it.
I don’t… I want to be competitive and past 800 it gets noticeably harder than the 6mm but I love my 223.
I’ve shot mine in several matches including the Brawl at Rifles Only. With the majority of stages usually inside 600yds the 223 doesn’t struggle. But 1000yds hasn’t been an issue either. I usually shoot either 85.5 or 80.5’s.
Wind calling will need to be on par, and spotting your impacts is critical with less shown splash.
but overall it’s a great choice.
The one I posted is not really a trainer as much as my new primary 1k yard rifle. I like it more than my 6.5x47. The wind drift at 1k is around 10% more than any 6 or 6.5 non magnum rounds I have seen. It really is pretty much identical to most 6BR family cartridges unless they are really hot rodded. Haven't once regretted building it.
PS. 88 ELDM are dirt cheap though they can be tough to track down at times.
223AI on a trued up R700. Sleeved firing pin, sako extractor, IBI 1:7 twist barrel. It's a fantastic rifle out to 500m which is the limit of our range where we shoot PRS style matches. I'm shooting 80gr custom comps @ 2920 using ADI brass, 2206H (H4895), BR4 primers.
I've also got a trainer for my trainer A Lithgow LA101 22LR also in a Bravo stock with the same everything else. We shoot rimfire matches at the same range. It goes ok with the Lapua Center-x.

I have some that I played with early on with a 22" 1:7 Wilson barrel and didn't see the best accuracy compared to 75 ELDs. I recently picked up a new 24" 1:7 Krieger barrel and am going to give it another try.
What powder are you using?
My last batch i got for $0.22 each and my first were $0.18 each from Powder Valley and Midsouth respectively. I am using 24.3gn of Varget now with a 27" Bartlein. Have gone as high as 24.7 but it kills primer pockets in 2 reloadings that high. With a 24" Krieger I would guess you would be around 2750-2780 ish. I couldn't get mine to shoot till my jump was around 0.035". Not sure on my freebore. I measured to see how much longer I could seat in a mag and used a unithroater after the initial chambering to get it to the jump I wanted at mag length. I have shot it to a mile and it seems to do very respectably out to that far at least. Have done 8 for 15 on an 18" plate on my last trip.
7 seconds of flight time is a VERY rough count brother.
3000 feet in 1000 yards, a bullet traveling 2800 fps at the muzzle gets there in about 1.5 seconds.
But I agree, it seems like longer sometimes
Factor in deceleration? It's about 1.93 seconds. But still not near 7. Maybe to hear the sound bounce back if hitting a plate(do 77 grain bullets make a sound loud enough to hear at 1000 yards?)
7 second is to hear the ding of the bullet hitting the plate. It was barley there but you could tell it was a hit or not with the DING!
Since this seems like the right place to ask: what kind of accuracy capability do you guys see with the 75/77gr stuff at ~750yrds and then at 1000yrds..? Is sub-MOA unrealistic on calm days at those distances?

On paper they may not look significantly different, but they’re just much more difficult to shoot at distance compared to 6mms. Obviously wind plays a big factor in that, but the lack of feedback past 600 yards is even harder to overcome. Factor in mirage, shadows, etc. and you’re fighting to even see the plate move or splash in the dirt… forget about which way it’s swinging or how much you missed by. And that’s not to say that it can’t be done or that you shouldn’t try it, just don’t expect 6mm performance from a .223 no matter how similar they seem on paper.
In terms of accuracy, anything is possible. And in perfect conditions (no wind, no mirage, stable shooting position, etc.), I would say sub-moa is certainly attainable. However, I would also venture to guess that you won’t be shooting that rifle too often if you’re waiting on perfect conditions in a match.
And again, all this is not to say that .223 isn’t a perfectly capable round. It is, especially with the right chamber and load. Just temper your expectations and your primary uses for it and you’ll be extremely happy.
Browsing hit the nail on the head. Once you figure out what its doing at 1k its good. But not seeing any splash or anything makes knowing exactly where youre hitting tough, especially in wind. Ive had times where Ill shoot a few and go "god damnit Im just wasting ammo" to walk up to the plate and see some small feint marks where I had been hitting all along, they dont swing a full size ipsc at all. Thats why its not as competitive as a 6mm to me but flashers would help.
