Well I'm tired of my "military" sniper rifles and want to make something on my own around the remington 700...

I am pretty sure I'm set on 308 or 300win mag calibers, I'd buy a 338lap but due to some of our regulations I'd be in danger of losing the rifle in the following years if something changed...
Mind you I am from a country where luxury tax is applied to weapons and parts so I will not buy a custom rig but build one myself. Thankfully we have a remington dealer and he can hook me up with most 700 models available today.

What chaises are there except the AI ones ? What 700 model would be best to start from if money was not a problem in getting the basic rifle ? ( I can't order custom barrels as of now but will have that option in the following year).
I'd like to have a heavy barrel installed on the 700 out of factory and would be interested in lowering the recoil of the rifle in any way possible except a suppressor ( not legal here).
I have extensively been shooting with a 30-06, Mauser 8mm, 308 etc etc so I'm not scared of flinch problems or stuff that happens when you go from 22 to 300winmag without shooting a ton of led.

What would your ideas be , ideal setup for this build, alternative calibers and ideas for a rifle I'd want to use to finally get my 1k shot  , I have time and have some 3-5k$ available to build this rig...
And no, I can't get my hands on a Savage or Tikka at the moment, :p i have a Savage Thompson but that's another story...

All your ideas, input, suggestions and replies will mean much to me and am thankful in advance for them.

Cheers

For the starting rifle, the 5R would probably be the top of the list. From there, the Police or Sendero or any of the heavy barrel versions.

As for chassis, do you want a true chassis like the AI, or just the benefits of the chassis mounting? Manners Stocks for one, makes their line of stocks with an available Mini Chassis. Aluminum mounting block, detachable box magazine. Just bolt in the barreled action and go.

Here is what I built, and it worked quite well out to 1200 yards.

Remington PS-1 barreled action in .308
Manners T-4A with Mini Chassis (Mud color scheme)
Timney Trigger
Vortex Viper PST 6-24x FFP
20 MOA rail
Harris S-BRM bipod with Pod Lock
HTI Skid
Kampfeld bolt knob

I have right around $3000 in the whole thing (not including extra magazines). But I bought the base rifle a long time ago at a much lower price than today. With a 5R today to start with, you are looking at $3800 or so.

I can get a 700 stainless steel 5R for 1400$ ( mind you I'm across the pond so thats a nice price)... No Police or Sendero available in 300 win mag.
I'd like to have a full chassis like the AI but want to know if there are other makers and models available, I'd like to be an informed buyer and check all my alternatives before committing to only one solution.
A detachable box magazine is a must as I've grown accustomed to that with my other rifles...
I have several 308 rifles so I'd up the ante on this one to 300 win mag if possible...
Thanks for your reply !

5R ordered in 300 win mag. Now the wait begins !
All suggestions for everything else you'd slap on that rifle are still more than welcomed !

Regards

5R - estimated delivery - ONE YEAR...

Scrapping this idea alltogether, found an AI retailer that is willing to work with me.

Could you guys post the ideal package for an AW 308 and AW 300 win mag options ?

Thanks !
