Help on 6.5 creed load data

I just converted my 308 to 6.5 creedmore. I run a 260 bolt gun and load 43 gr of h4350, I heard I can not load the gasser as hot as the bolt gun. One guy toldme to try 42.6 gr of h4350, can anyone share their load date?
Thanks, I can't wait to shoot this puppy. I have a 24 in Kreiger barrel on a dpms platform, running pmags. Short Action Customs chambered the barrel and put it all back together. I can't thank Mark enough for the help!

I have used these without any problems all with 140 SMKs:
Varget 34.7
IMR-4350 39.5
RL-15 35.8
None are hot but they were accurate.

hornady and I load 41.5 gr of H4350. They work fine on my Fulton Armory 6.5 Creedmoore gas gun. I am new to the rifle so I am not a good judge of accuracy, but no issues with FTF, FTE, or primer swipes.

What velocity were you getting? I run 43 gr of h4350 in my 260, I was going to try 42.6, as someone said I could get close to 2800 fps. I will verify with my chrony, thanks for the reply, I will try 41.5 too. I can't get to a 300 yard range for a while so no ladder test yet

You may need to do some experimentation. I recently built a 6.5Creedmore using a Mega Arms set, Benchmark barrel and JP bolt and carrier. My gun does not like H4350, it seems to be too slow and I get bad ejector swipes with Hornady factory loads (the pressure curve lasts too long and the bolt starts to open while chamber pressure is too high). From my testing in my gun it seems a faster powder than H4350 and hot primers are needed to get decent velocities while not having timing issues (I.e. swipes). I've been working up loads using Varget and 123gr SMKs (I have not tried 142gr bullets yet), the faster powder helps and using magnum primers helps even more. In a 20" barrel I have the 123gr SMKs up to the mid 2800fps range without significant swipes.

hornady's factory loads as printed on their respective boxes are
120 gr with 44.5 gr of H4350
140 gr with 41.5 gr of H4350

both loaded with fed 210 primer.

start there with your reloads and work up carefully.

Actually hornady has moved the factory 120gr load to varget. Il see if i still have a box with the load data. it shot just fine in my gasser.

Thanks, I will work up some h4350 and varget loads and see. What works best. I have only used fgmm primers, I was going to try chi bench rest primers on the gasser. Anyone used these primers. I picked up 3000 the other day. I will be rebarreling before I run out of primers..........

I've used CCI BR2s, 250s and No. 34s. In my testing The 250s burn hotter than the BR2s, I need to test the 34s to see how hot they burn. I've been using the 34s in my Creedmore bolt gun because the BR2s were giving me piercing problems.

I'm getting 2,616 fps with 140 gr SMK's and 41.8 grains H4350 on a 20" barrel AR. How long is the barrel on that Savage slim7? Maybe 24"?

200 fps seems like a lot for 4 inches, my Kreiger is 24, I still haven't had time to shoot it yet. Also, I run 43 gr of 4350 in my 260 and get 2825 Fps in a 26 in barrel. I know different case, but that seems fast? Thanks for the primer info, if I get piercing, I will us the 210's.

Do you get temp sensitivity with rl17? I heard you get velocity differences, as temps rise?

Here's an OCW test I did with 142SMKs and H4350. Not a gas gun, but will give you some ideas on charge weight.
2.81" COL and brass was fully prepped to specs.
3-shot groups...

Well I made it out to the range yesterday, I tried 39 gr varget and 41.5 h4350, both loaded to mag length 2.800, very accurate, matter of fact I was putting them in the same hole when I did my job. The problem was primers cratering and piercing. I need to back off the charge and do a real ladde test. H4350 seemed to have less pressure. I tried cci br and fgmm primers neither held up well. I have never experienced pierced primers before.

Keep a close eye on the tip of your firing pin, piercing primers will cause erosion of the tip which will lead to more pierced primers. You also might look into the CCI no. 34s if you need a harder cup (assuming there aren't other pressure signs telling you to back off on your load).
