I would say your view is both accurate and well explained. I see that all around me. Here, going into summer the U Haul lots are full of trucks and enclosed trailers people have dropped off at the end of their journey.Having lived in both Billings and Bozeman Montana, and the neighboring state Wyoming, I feel like I can give a credible opinion on both states...
One of the biggest problems are the MT voters- on average they're more naive compared to the average WY voter and more likely to believe the BS from the DEMS & RINOs.
More of MT's citizens are from Scandinavian countries where the people are much more likely to be conned into leftism. It hurt's MT's politics and culture that there are many more indian reservations, and ski/snowboard resorts, compared to Wyoming. Big budget movies have also made MT a destination for many- especially from the big money, BLUE areas of CA, WA, and OR.
Since at least the early 90s and that movie ARRTI, all of the above have made MT a destination for very many wealthy Kommifornians who buy huge ranches, and expensive McMansions in town, all over western MT, making land and housing costs skyrocket.
I much prefer the scenery and terrain of western Montana over both eastern MT and most of the state of WY, but finding a nice small to midsize ranch at a price affordable to the non-wealthy, is a real challenge.
Also, BlackRock, Bill Gates, Ted Turner, and similar entities and other billionaires, have bought up hundreds of millions of acres in Montana.
The struggle is real, but the effort is worth it.
It's really sad because the majority of native Idahoans, Montanans, Wyomingites, and South Dakotans are Americans and not democrats, so if they're priced out because of some Kommifornians or other dems- it hurts that Red state's elections, culture, and authenticity.Having grown up on the Idaho side of the Tetons I can testify to this as well. With family still in the area and also in both MT and WY the rush of commie money into the areas since the 90’s to buy up land has driven the cost of living out of reach for most. Been trying to find a way back but nothing but a dream thus far.
If you take those thoughts and expand them to a worldwide scale... You will see the path of the Deep State's (or what ever you want to label it) plan to rule the world. Two examples are Europe and the Middle East. The cultures in those countries are being "diluted" as well. The strongest countries with the deepest foundations are being targeted. It's really sad because the majority of native Idahoans, Montanans, Wyomingites, and South Dakotans are Americans and not democrats, so if they're priced out because of some Kommifornians or other dems- it hurts that Red state's elections, culture, and authenticity.
Welcome to the club, next will be a required parking pass, followed by a launch fee etc etc etc…….they will tell you it’s for upkeep and maintain etc etc….but it will all find its way into the ”general fund” and from there to re-election campaigns……..The "Nickle and Diming" continues.

Conservation licenses required for Montana fishing access sites starting July 1
Starting July 1, those who don't fish or hunt will be required to purchase a conservation license to use fishing access sites, wildlife management areas, and state trust lands managed by the DNRC.www.kpax.com
Indians were generally more anti-immigrant than modern Americans.People don't like change.... The Native Americans did not like the White man taking over the West....

So cut all of them. Reduce property taxes by 10% instead of raising it. Problem solved. But even then, few members of the public agreed on what to cut. Some wanted to add even more money to address homelessness. Some wanted to eliminate spending on the so-called Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion program, calling it unproven and wasteful. Others wanted to cut police while some wanted to pour additional funding into social services, even at the taxpayer's expense.
Property taxes differ by county. Montana has no sales tax. There is both Federal and State income tax. What do your property taxes look like in Montana?
My home in Georgia is worth maybe a quarter million, and I pay about $2000 in property taxes annually. Georgia has an income tax, though, and I typically pay more in Georgia income tax than I do in federal income tax each year.
Looks pretty low based on what I entered. Thanks.
Understood.I should add, low for a certain $ value compared to where I live - but with that having been said, real estate is much more expensive in Montana, so the bill would inevitable be higher for the same house, because it would cost more there.
I did not want to leave any misleading impressions from my last post.
Went out over Red Lodge and landed at Billings. One hell of a trip. They are just watching the sea lions.
The next endangered species. Shut down the lake and all access to the lake... LOLLooking for sharks…….duh!

Shark found on riverbank in landlocked Idaho causes alarm, officials say
A salmon shark found on the shores of the Salmon River in Idaho last week was dropped there for what officials say was likely a prank "for a good laugh."www.foxnews.com
Most likely scenario. Old joke where I grew up around Yellowstone:OR . . . maybe it was a calculated strategy. If the bear did not go down, then the gunshot would slow his buddy down enough for him to get away.
Yep, you don't have to be faster than the bear...just faster than your buddy.OR . . . maybe it was a calculated strategy. If the bear did not go down, then the gunshot would slow his buddy down enough for him to get away.
Pro's and Cons:A job opportunity has popped up for me in Kalispell, I’m sure there are those with thoughts on living in this general area. Pros/cons, things to look for etc. Wife is an RN so her finding work wouldn’t be an issue, also have 2 daughters.
I am somewhat prepared for the increase in coat of living, especially coming from Iowa and having a mortgage at 3.3%, so any move will increase my cost of living. Case in point, my brother is paying $1350/mo for a 2-bedroom apartment here now.Pro's and Cons:
It is a beautiful area.
3 million + visitors to Glacier Park every summer
Kalispell has allowed the "Big Box" developments outside of the Old Town. Crowded
A guess on my part - Infrastructure is lagging well behind development which will result in land grabbing by the city and taxes escalating more rapidly than other areas.
Politics's (US Senator) has some exclusive developments going in the Whitefish area.
Due to in-climate weather conditions my doctors and RN's are required to live within 20 minutes of the hospital where they work. Of course, more expensive housing.
IMHO.... Two working adults with two children will need to knock down $300k / year in order to simply exist. $400k / will allow you to be comfortable.

Understood... I'm am not attempting to discourage you.I am somewhat prepared for the increase in coat of living, especially coming from Iowa and having a mortgage at 3.3%, so any move will increase my cost of living. Case in point, my brother is paying $1350/mo for a 2-bedroom apartment here now.
According to MLS data, Kalispell’s median sales price dropped to $499,000 this May compared to $590,000 in May of 2022.
A few reasons:$300,000 to $400,000???
Median household income in Kalispell is far below the national median, at $55,411 (2021), so how is this possible? Is 70% of the population working homeless, with their kids waking up from sleeping bags in the mini-van to go off to school, while mom and dad go to work?
Why would property values not revert back to mean? I have seen the home price listings there go from 200s to 500s last year and now 600s this year (median listings, not sales, not median home value), so who is buying them, and how can they be buying them without driving up the median income as well?
A $500k home can be turned into rental property or an Airbnb.... The movie people like Yellowstone gobble up the rentals and Airbnb's when they are on location. Why would investment bankers buy $500k homes in Montana. That makes no sense. If this is a second/vacation home, wouldn't they be buying much more expensive property?
