High Standard Supermatic Trophy chamber problem

I have a High Standard Supermatic Military Trophy pistol that had not been fired in 30 years. Cleaned and lubricated it and went to the range. Magazine fed fine. Brass ejected fine. But the slide would often not fully push the round into the chamber. Was firing Remington Target and CCI Standard.
What should I be looking for?

i was having the same problem, wouldn't chamber or eject consistently on that same pistol. i took a ss 25cal bore brush and carefully cleaned the chamber only and the problems went away.

Re: High Standard Supermatic Trophy chamber problem

Lead collects in the front end of the chamber. Over years, it can swell.

It can be removed several ways.

You can chase it out by carefully running a chamber reamer in by hand.

You can soak it out with Shooter's Choice lead remover solvent, then bronze brushing heck out of it, repeating as needed until proper function is restored.

The other fixes, including the springs, etc., are good ideas too.

I have worked with several aged HS pistols and agree with the above.

To remove the leading you might try this homemade solution:

Remove the barrel from the frame. hold vertical, plug bore and treat for 2-3 minutes. Protect the bluing from extended contact with the solution. If the bore is badly leaded it may take several applications alternating with brushing.

Absolutely replace the recoil spring. Unless you know the round count on the current spring assume that it is worn out. A weak spring can lead to the frame being battered by the slide during recoil and crack the frame. It is cheap maintenance to prevent damage to a classic pistol.

Only use standard velocity .22 LR (such as CCI Standard Velocity). Using high velocity ammunition can cause frame cracking.

Wow, you guys are a great resource. I am reading up on all of this and will get some parts/solutions on order so that I can get it straightened out.

I used to use some high velocity 30 years ago, but I am only using standard velocity recently.

TKS!
