I'm a die hard bourbon fan at heart. I might drink two beers a year and generally stay away from any white liquor except for Thanksgiving and Christmas when I always have at least one bloody mary. It's a guaranteed hangover but it's tradition so I indulge anyway. I've always bought some sort of bloody mary mix and then doctored it up with Worcestershire, hot sauce, pepper, etc.. This year I thought I'd try my hand a making them from scratch.

So let's hear your best bloody mary recipes. I like a few green olives in mine and was thinking a little of the juice from the olive jar might give one a nice twist but I'm interested to hear what the experts say.

Get some Hoosier Mamma bloody mary mix...add the vodka and a couple of dilly greenbeans. Google the website. If you cannot find it a store, email Erin and she will get you some...just mention Victoria to her. This stuff is nice and thick and will not water down with ice

Dilly-Beans sure are the way to go. We put up a couple batches this year, just for reasons such as this.

Interested in seeing peoples recipe's too. I make a killer Caesar, but not had a "Bloody Mary".

Yet.

That's it! Ya talked me into it.
Gonna go dig a couple roots and load a small grinder for deer season.
All I'll need to do is find a victim, I mean helper to crank it.
Goes good with fried butterflyed tenderloins too.

Has anyone else heard of beer and tomato juice?
(some put Frank's red hot in it too)

Heard of it .....Hell live on it in my younger days
Now they have Hot & Spicy V8

Once you get that bloody mary mixed up, don't forget the beer chaser! Don't see that much anymore.

I also like to add a dill pickle spear to the mary, along with an olive or two.

Re: Hit me with your best bloody mary recipe

I made quite a few yesterday. Used plain tomato juice then tried different variations with olive juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, black pepper and salt. Used both celery and pickle spears as garnish or stirring device. No one turned their noses up at them, had a few myself and they were pretty tasty.

Re: Hit me with your best bloody mary recipe

Minor trivia point, but it seems that what ya'll call a "Bloody Mary" down there, we call a "Caesar" up here.

And yes, this is why we make the Dilly Beans by the batch. Way more gooder than celery, believe you me.

Re: Hit me with your best bloody mary recipe

Add a little Tomato Juice I guess. This smoked salmon vodka is the rage up here when you can get it. My totally smoked recipe is smoked salmon with dip and smoked salmon vodka straight up. Everyone who has tried it with tomato juice says its a killer bloddy mary.

I'll second RJW's recommendation since Victoria and him never give out only the top shelf advice. If you have to go 'scratch':
12oz Ston Vodka, Level, Pravda or 360* works too
2p Tomato Juice
1c Clam juice
2T Worcestershire
2T Hot Sauce(I use RJW's recipe from going-local Victoria's site)
3 pinches of Celeray Salt
1 pinch Garlic Salt
3 turns fresh ground pepper

Shake it all up real good, and pour over ice. Garnish with a celery leaf stick. Serve with things like bagels, toast points, creme fraishe, gravlox, caviar, you know, good stuff to go with a superb drink to start a weekend morning off right
