So loading them I really didn’t have to change the die setting, it set them at the same COAL/CBTO within +/- .003 which is acceptable. However weight to weight the Aeromatch bullets were around 139.4-140.2 over a sample of 20 bullets weighed. The meplats looked way more inconsistent and wider at the open end than Berger bullets. Even more erratic than sierras. They look a little shorter and fatter than the 140 hybrids do from Berger. Maybe they copied the SMK? Either way Sunday I’m shooting them at 1000 yards and I’ll get some groups. At 100.
I’ll use my CCI 450 41.5 H4350 annealed starline load I have been having so much luck with and do a direct comparison out of my D5 pro. Hopefully they shootView attachment 8616847
At 109y they zeroed the same point of impact (bergers were a little bit lower) but out at 800 yards on a 2/3 IPSC the hornady bullets were all over the place with the Delta 5 pro (the barrel has 2300 rounds on it, it was shooting the Berger bullets just fine I went 10 for 10 with it.) the data was putting the Aeromatch bullets a little high instead of dead on like it was with the bergers. Both bullets were chronoing around 2663 with my 41.5 H4350 CCI 450 primer starline brass load.
Out of my Criterion barreled AR10 (which prefers hornady and Sierra bullets over Berger bullets) I went 7/10 with the Berger load and 8/10 with the hornady. The bullets grouped better with the Aeromatch out of my AR10.
It was 34 degrees and the wind was steadily blowing 15mph at the 10:30 to the target and gusting around 25-30mph on my kestrel.
My overall assessment over 100 rounds compared to Berger bullets is I would say the bergers are worth the extra money 100% The weight inconsistency seemed to be causing some problems at distance for me compared to the berger bullets which always weigh much closer bullet to bullet. However if you want a cheaper bullet that performs well in an AR10 for shooting within 1000 yards I would choose the Aeromatch and be confident that I would be making impacts at distance.
I’d still stack my bullet choice Berger, then Sierra, then hornady for my 6.5 creedmoors. This is just one datapoint however, I will keep track of my shooting and shoot more in better weather with less insane wind in the future once it starts heating up again here in the Texas hill country.
