How long before the poor unemployed poors start selling their shit dirt cheap? Most people live beyond their means and are in debt up to their tits. I've got a feeling there's going to be more than a few great deals coming up soon .

Revel in the people loosing their toys because they can't go to work. Real fucking classy. I guess this is the flip side of the douche bag coin from price gouging.

No one is making them sell anything, it's not our fault that some people make $6000 a month and have $5993 a month in debt payments. If they had chosen a better career ,they'd be at work.

Oh, is that whats shutting down the economy right now? Career choices? Interesting.
His point is still valid. People who live on the edge of financial disaster almost always are there because of stupidity. Not all of them, mind you. But the great majority of them.

If you're inclined to provide charity to people hawking their shit on Armslist, be my guest. But you're fucking nobody to criticize anyone who takes advantage of a good deal brought about by the seller's lack of financial planning.

I’ve delayed purchases that we had planned, and not entirely because I’m hoping for a smokin’ deal later, but rather for my own financial good.

For the time being, construction is essential. Thankfully I have not let anyone go....

If a good deal presents itself, for one reason or another, I’d like to be in position to buy.

I'm empathic to the lower class who got blitzed by these events. The waitress who lost all three jobs in one week and can't make payments on her 2006 Grand Prix does not need another kick in the pants. Anyone exploiting that situation deserves a solid beat-down, or at least to receive a valid threat of one if the behavior does not cease.

I have trouble digging up the same emotion for someone making a low-six-figure wage that decided to lever up with every bit of debt the bank would loan so that he could buy a ridiculously large house and fill it with toys. I spent the last several years paying down the mortgage, avoiding new debt, and accumulating some modest savings, because I learned lessons from the last downturn. If one made different choices that puts them into a position that now favors me, well, those are the breaks. Maybe the wife is gonna get a new-to-her car in the next few months. Maybe if things get really bad, the family is gonna get an RV so we don't have to rough it with a van and tents. Maybe we'll get a SxS for playing around in the woods. Maybe I'll find a good deal on a gun I've wanted but couldn't justify.

Or maybe this thing blows over by Easter and people go right back to 40% debt-to-income ratios like nothing ever happened, and I go back to looking poor.

I called this the week oil prices took a dump. People will do and let go of what they must to get by.
The ones with the campers and two atv’s and a boat I don’t worry for so much. They can adjust and get by.

I feel for the people who had good jobs but also family medical bills higher than the price of a new Silverado. Some maybe had to take on debt to get by while they worked it out. And it wasn’t because they were too stupid or lazy to work hard and get a good job.

The whole shitting on the poors thing doesn’t seem so funny lately even though I mostly have a good sense of humor. So far I get to keep pushing hydrocarbons through the pipe out exposing myself while all the corporate and office folk shelter safe at home still getting salary off my work. But I feel like the hour glass has been turned, the clock is ticking and it’s only a matter of time. Sucks.

Ask a good farmer what it’s like to bust ass all year, do everything right and still not make a crop or get paid shit for it.

I hear that they are going to pay 100% for unemployment. Up to a certain amount.

If someone is selling something that I want/need I don't really care why they are selling. If it's a good deal I'll gladly buy.

    An interesting experiment:

On a firearms sales page, person had ammo listed for an extremely high price. He received 5 emails calling him a gouger.

That person deleted that ad, and then listed the same ammo with the same picture, on the same site, in the same city. He listed it for half of what it was worth when originally purchased on sale.

He received over 50 emails in a day with people asking if the price listed was for all ammo shown, and wanting to buy now. He emailed each one back and asked if his price was to high, knowing full well it was underpriced by 50% under normal market conditions. Not a single person told him his ammo was underpriced and he was losing money. They all wanted to buy it now!

So, two sides of the coin. People are super saints and full of morals when they are asked to pay a high premium due to supply shortages, but are a bunch of cunts when they see a deal, and will gladly rip a person off.

Moral of the story: Altruism is for losers.

There's no doubt a difference b/t smart debt and dumb debt. I don't believe anyone here is talking about the former. It's the guy who impulse buys items they can do without for no other reason than lack of discipline.

Ripping people off because they need the money is not providing charity.

Reveling in those deals coming down the line because people can't go to work, is fucking pitiful, as is defending people for doing that. Way to love thy neighbor. Way to help people when they are down, you say you want to kick them more? You say fuck the people in this community?

Why am I no one to criticize?

Remember one thing. If EVERYONE were successful then our society wouldn't work. I'm not wealthy, and I'm not "poor", but I don't look down on anyone working any low paying job. Some make poor choices, others can't do anything else. What would life be like of everyone was a successful CEO or "rich guy"?

Nobody is forced to sell cheap. I have been know to tell uninformed people (widows eg) the real value of an item so not to cheat someone, however the other side of the coin is to help people out by buying their stuff. The other option for them is a pawn shop who I assume treats them well...

I wouldn’t go quite that far as I believe it has it’s place even though it seems like a waste sometimes.

However, watching human nature as it is, is really something.
Like watching monkeys flinging shit at the zoo, it’s just not something you’ll benefit from getting involved in.

Kind of like posting in the bear pit sometimes now that I think about it.

Most of the ones I see living beyond their means, in debt up to their tits are the rich.

Aesop’s fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant seems to be forgotten: saving for winter. We will see many discounted items for sale, just like after the 2008 crash, as many have nothing saved.

“Deals” will be had in comparison to “today’s” valuation. There seems to be lots of confusion in this thread between the two.

Providing others with increased options for financial liquidity isn’t evil, it is good for any marketplace. The more arbitrage interlopers in an economic system looking for “deals” the quicker the system will reach equilibrium.

Economically, every transaction (other than theft/taxes) generate a position of increased perceived wealth for each individual. So called “price gouging” ensures item availability in times of scarcity. It is good. Deal hunters in times of excess provide liquidity. It is good.

If a friend comes to me and asks about a price, I tell them to the best to my ability. Otherwise “fair” market value is whatever the market will bare (transaction friction included which most forget).

I’m holding out for the half priced Ford Raptor.

I’ve spent the past 14 years paying off all my youthful stupidity/student loans and putting my family in a decent financial position. It wasn’t fun, and in hindsight bankruptcy would’ve been the smarter financial move (although I’m too prideful to do that unless in true dire straits). I’m certainly not immune to everything going on, but I’ve tried to get to a place where we could survive on one income if we had to. We moved to an expensive place 3.5 years ago and bought a home (now on a 15 year mortgage), but I think we’re still capable of scratching by on one income. I was going to write a check and pay off the wife’s suv this month, but with everything going on I’ve been selling off extra guns and putting as much in the emergency fund as possible just in case.

I feel bad for those who can’t get it together and get ahead. Some of it is circumstance and lack of opportunities, but I believe most of it is people who aren’t willing to not have the latest gadget or toy on credit. Everyone seems to have a smart phone plan, cable TV, designer clothes, new expensive shit, etc with most of it being on credit. I talk to people all the time who are making $50K per year and are driving a $50K truck that they use to tow their boat or quads. We need to add Dave Ramsey to the high school curriculum nationwide.

The forced shutting down of the economy is brutal on those service workers who make $12-15 per hour and now have nothing. I’m just starting to see the transportation related businesses I work with laying people off. Maybe the $2T waste of a stimulus plan will help these folks out or convince their companies to keep them on to weather the storm. If this work stoppage goes past mid May we’re in a world of shit.

    Percentage off original price paid:

10% Good guy trying to give back.
    25% Deal maker.
    50% Opportunity Taker.
    75% Ass rapist.
90% Please stay 500 feet from any elementary school for the foreseeable future...

Bank bailout bill gave $750B to banks with much going to executives as bonuses; how much of the $2T will get to where is needs to go?

This is an incredible event, I have bought and sold a metric shit ton of items in the past weeks. In my opinion the hard selling comes after the guberment checks have been spent/lootin and shootin becomes the norm.:(

Someone once told me "ammo is to be bought and sold, and in worst case scenarios traded";)

I learned my financial lessons and lived like a shrew for 4 years after my divorce to rathole enough money to buy a house (plan was outright, but the market dictated otherwise). Still on a 30 year, but paying up to 50% extra to make it done and gone in 18. I could afford a 15, but if my life went sideways, I wanted the cushion.

Still ratholeing money for situations just like this. I have 6 months salary saved up for emergencies and the target is 1 year - Unemployment, Household repairs, vehicle repairs...If I want a thing, it gets a modified budget to get it, without touching my squirrel fund.

People that buy the Teslas, $80k trucks then dump another $20k in lifting and tricking it out, a quad, toyhauler and all manner of other recreational crap....well that was their choice. I did not force them to leverage themselves to the max. You can be a consumer or an educated consumer. There is a difference.

The non-essential classified workers that got stuck at home on this BS pandemic scare, living paycheck to paycheck in a rental they can barely afford just above section 8 housing trying to make ends meet, I feel for them but again, everyone has a choice to either better themselves or make do. Sometimes hardships fall (down sized, closed business) but that is life in America. Been there done that.

There are things that I would like to have, and I'll be keeping my eye out as well for a body that decides that they can live without it to get the cash they need.

Does that make me a shitheel or is this helping out my fellow man trying to survive this media fanned shitshow?

If the price is what I value it as, then good. If I think it is too high, I just won't buy it. 50% - 65% of retail is my rule, and has been for 20 years on used stuff.

For those that call me a shitheel... kiss my ass. I've been supporting my GF and her two daughters for the last 1.5 years ($15k and rising, plus another $12.5k in interest free car loans for the daughters) due to neck and back surgeries, and a blown engine in her car. We won't talk about the outright "gifts".

I’m holding out for the half priced Ford Raptor.

Give this thing a few more months and you may get your wish.

Back in Jan 2009, a co-worker and I had very little to do (we worked as engineers in the auto industry and everything had ground to a halt), so we spent some free time as any auto enthusiast should - surfing eBay Motors. The deals were amazing - three-year-old Corvette Z06s for $25k, year-old diesel HD pickups for $30k, stuff like that. And those were the asking prices; actual transaction prices may have been much lower. In hindsight, I wish I'd had recorded some of the prices as a firm reminder of what sort of value can be found when highly-leveraged people have their priorities reorganized in an involuntary manner.

I didn't have the cash on hand to take advantage of the deals back then, since my wife and I picked an interesting time to remodel our house. And I probably won't be buying any Raptors or Corvettes this time around because I've got some different priorities at this point (a new-ish vehicle for the wife, commercial property for my business, etc.), but I'll keep an open mind as deals become available.

During the financial crisis, I ratholed dollars due to the political winds. I kick myself all the time for not picking up a dirt cheap 7.3 Ford Excursion. Man I love those thing and folks were selling them stupid cheap with 6$ a gal diesel.

Bullshit. I have worked my ass off for 47 years and was designated Critical Infrastructure then Covid hit and my boss/Corporation tossed hundreds to the wolves to get below the 500 employee limit for federal assistance which they lapped up like bitches when they dumped employees like excess baggage. They got millions i loans they don't have to pay back because they dumped faithful and hard working employees so they could cheat The System.

I can't even get a federal agency to take my statement to file a complaint of cheating, no lawyer will touch it (God knows why), and my Representative will not return my emails nor my phone calls.

Lying cheating millionaire cock suckers are making millions and me and mine are fucked. I can make it on savings and the fact that I have paid off my home and have serious investments but then we have people who think that everyone who gets fucked by this bullshit is some kind of slacker or dumbass.

    Fuck you and yer horse.

Pretty sure when they open it all up while infection rates are still increasing we'll see the shit hit the fan. My brother works for a meat packing plant as head of maintenance when they were ordered to keep all hands on deck...now the plant has a dozen dead, he and a hundred others are down with The Sickness (including his wife) and the plant can hardly function because they don't have enough healthy workers.

He and they didn't believe in social distancing or shutting it down to save infection. So now Darwin has intervened and the plant is screwed anyway.

Money, money, money, money, money. LOL....sorry. They forgot it's all a hoax. My brother is getting better. Now we are worried about his Wife. I'm betting we ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till the kids are all back at school and everyone is back at the Cube Farm...hang out a while. The Estate Sales will be epic!
