How are the B&C m40stocks? Do they need bedding? Never owned one. Just chassis and a M24 Rebuild I bought from remington years ago.....

The one I have I did not bed and it is a tack driver, and from what I remember it was aluminum bed inside of the stock that the receiver mounted to.
Yes, they have a full alloy bedding block. Excellent stocks but there’s actually not much M40 about them. It’s a bit of a misnomer.
I have a Howa SA .223 with 1:9 twist Varmint Fluted barrel at 24”. It’s a laser. I found that it shoots 75gn Hornady HPBTM and 77gn SMKs into 1/2” groups after I did seating depth testing and they fit in the magazine too!
I bed everything, even my 10/22s & SKS, haven't figured out where to put it on my ARs?? o_0

Ordered my Oryx chassis for my Howa SA when they had the black friday sale.....said in stock....come to find out I won't get it until February 7th......kinda crazy.....might just get a choate stock from optics planet and use that for the time being...
Howa mini I finished painting today
The kids Howa Mini in 6.5grendel. Weighs 7lb6oz as pictured with no ammo. The scope is a gen2 pst 3-15 which I had laying around.
My 11 year old did the load development and was getting sub moa with decent sd's in a medium node with 123gr eldm's.
The barreled action was Cerakoted in FDE and put in a Stockysstocks VG with olive webbing. A metal bottom metal is next. And probably a lighter scope. The boys like this one though.

Which bottom metal do you plan on going with? One of my minis has an MDT and the other an oregunsmithing. I hear there is one by Jefferson that's good. I would not buy the oregunsmithing again if it were me.
As much as I like the MDT I won't be using then since you are stuck using their 10rd mags. That doesn't work for hunting. For me with the kids anyways. What don't you like about the oregunsmithing?
Here is my 6yo making a first round impact at 510yds steel is a 10" round plate. We are working on fundamentals still but he seems to be able to tolerate the recoil ok. The stockysstocks VG has a slim recoil pad from the factory. So lop is 12.75" or so, fits my 11yo perfectly as is.
Did you buy the mdt and then realized they won't work for you so now you're stuck with them?
Or you just never bought into them since you already knew you wouldn't like them for your application?
The oregunsmithing just needs a lot of tinkering. In one of my rifles, I was able to get it to feed fine but I can only load 3 rounds into it instead of the advertised 4. The 4 will fit but very tight and induce problems.
For whatever reason, on my other mini, it just doesn't work. Once I torque the action and bottom metal onto the stock, the hinged door won't latch close. Or if I install it already closed, it's going to be a bitch to get it opened and if I do, I won't be able to close it back.
I found that I need to bring the entire bottom metal out a bit for it to work. The solution would be to bed it where I need it, which I can, but don't want to.
Aside from that one issue, I have no idea why most times the rounds don't want to feed up the ramp correctly. They seem to hit flat on a wall. I thought maybe you just have to run the bolt hard. So I did. I ended up seating the bullet deep into the case on 3 different cartridges. I can't have that happen in the field, this was supposed to be a hunting rifle I want to give to my dad so I want something he can rely on.
So for now, I left it on the rifle it works, but that one has a full rail over the receiver which makes it tough to top load. I did not want the oregunsmithing on this rifle for that reason. I ended up using the mdt on the hunting rifle I want to give my dad. It looks silly with that huge bulky mag sticking out under it.
I never bought one once I leaned that they only work with the mdt mags. I don't mind the poly bottom metal as it's the kids rifle and I want it to run 100% over shooting 3/4" groups versus 1". If that makes sense. The dip was where I was leaning.
Here is with the SRS Hunter rail. Kids have no problem hitting steel off the tripod at 300yds.

May not be the best but it's still a decent solution.
You can take out or add more padding in to build up enough rise.
I don't know about a 1 piece DNZ reaper for the mini, I use them on my 1500s SA. But they also make a 2 piece set that would lower it.

Here is mine with med height holding a Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50, I just have enough clearance over my heavy barrel to use flip caps, and I have to take the cheek riser off to shoot.
This one had a pocket, it came with a trade so I don't know who made it. I gave this to my son (built from all my leftover, less desirable parts) But still a nice rifle!?
I also have one of these and I like it a lot as I can store spare rounds in the round holders inside the pouch. Or you can velcro them outside and use the pouch for an extra mag, etc.
However, it's not a cheek riser. I suppose you can build up enough height with foam and tape and then use this as a way to hide all that so it doesn't look as bad.
Hi there, my Howa 1500 SA in .223 Rem is also a 1:9 twist but I’ve got it shooting 75gn Hornady HPBTMs, and 77gn SMKs extremely accurately by doing seating depth testing. 75gn ELD-Ms Forget It! Minute of barn door at any depth.
Got my new field stock. Did some grinding on the bolt stop this evening and it's perfect. Just need to get the barrel threaded.
Sweet! Are you going to have your bolt threaded for a knob at the same time? I ordered 2 new rifles with 16" heavy treaded barrels; 308 & 6.5cm. I gifted my hunting rifle to my son last year, it wasn't cobbled together sub-tier, but it was everything I didn't want; Atlasworxs DBM, HACT trigger, Outer impact rail, Weaver rings, and a 20" non threaded barrel. My 6.5 is complete, 308 has all the prep done to bed the stock, I keep procrastinating about mixing up the Devcon. This started out as a 240 WBY Vanguard. Now a 6 Creed with a Bartlein 27" 8 twist Rem Varmint, lil beast brake, oversized bolt knob, McMillan A5 with adj cheekpiece, Timney at 1.5#, Leupold MK4 20 MOA base and rings, MK4 8.5-25x, cerakoted tan. Rifle weighs 15# ready to hunt. Shoots under 1/2 MOA with 108g ELDM factory match ammo and my handloads with the 108s and H4350.
With the polymer mags, did you have to machine off the tab at the back of the receiver. I have two Howa 1500's
I have done the machine work on my 308. I can use both metal and polymer MDT mags. Since then I have heard that with polymer MDT mags its not required. Before I do my 223 I'm trying to find out what's what.
I have not removed the tab at the rear center of the underside of the receiver on either my 308 or short action 223. It's not necessary to do so for any magazine to function with a short action Howa in any KRG chassis.
Both mine are in GRS stocks. It only takes 5 minutes to do the mill work. The set up actually takes longer. I was hoping the reason was the polymer mag as apposed to using a KRG chassis. Since I have to order the mags and bottom metal anyway, a Mockup will tell the tail. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard .223 with a really skinny barrel and their budget plastic stock. It is a 1-14" barrel so won't shoot anything heavier than a 55. I want to get rid of the slow twist skinny barrel. I can only shoot 3-4 shots before the barrel is so hot the groups open wayyy up. I've heard factory barrels can be a bitch to remove. What's the easy button to get to factory barrel off?

Yup, Lee did the work few years ago for me but due to personal situation hadn’t had the rifles out since. Lee’s work is always quality!

Thank you. I wanted a copper head theme so I found a FDE chassis and used a sponge from Walmart to paint on a few colors then sealed it with a matte brush on sealer.
I have two howa 1500's and I rebarreled both of them myself. To get the factory barrels off, I took them to my local gunsmith and he had make a relief cut to get them off.
