So just got a savage 338 lapua with hs stock I had a brain fart and left it in my vehicle at desert sportsman for about 8 hours when I got back to the car the stock split down the center fml . So being the calm headed person I am I called hs and talked with sales a man by the name of don I talked with him extensive and I quote we don't warranty heat he said any stock left in a vehicle will do the same I informed him I also left a bell and Carlson in there with no I'll affects don said at 125 degrees the foam they use expands and that's what caused the stock to crack . And then offered me a new one at guess what full price and 4 to 6 week wait now I know it was a brain fart but shouldn't the company warranty it I guess I learned a expensive leason all I know is I will never buy or recommend a hs stock to anyone

This is old news, HS is a shit company.We had a customer with the exact same thing happen.The top dog at HS even got involved.The end result was they claimed over 125 degrees the foam core material they use reactivates and splits the shell.This in their mind is neglect though I never see it in their adds.
When asked how the Army got away with using them in the middle east for so long no answer was given.I go out of my way to turn anyone I can away from them.

Thats the biggest bunch of bullshit. I guess they don't intend on military using their stocks over seas in 120 degree heat or using them in Arizona or any desert region for that matter? I would definitely make a huge stink about it to everybody at the company and let them know you're going to spread the word on every website and gun store in Vegas.

Buy a chassis system like the XLR or KRG it won't melt. I wonder how hot the inside of a car gets in the desert?

The issue with foam activating with temps over 125 is great to know, guess that takes one of the choices out of the selection.

Savage is closed till 18th will follow up when I did ask to talk to someone else don said he was it I hope savage will cover it if not chassis system here I come and I will throw a huge bitch about it totally unacceptable product and customer service

Savage has a lifetime warranty on their products, I have no doubt that they will send a replacement, I remember reading about someone breaking their Axis stock by dropping it and getting a replacement.

My problem with some of the chassis systems would be the other extreme, when it's 30 or 40 below and you have to touch metal, you better like pain.
Carbon fiber hand guards may help that, I don't know how carbon fiber holds up in extreme cold, or how it feels. Cheekpiece better not be exposed metal.

Shot my Rock Solid chassis last weekend in 108* and the brown anodized was no warmer to the touch than fiberglass stocks sitting in the sun. I was pretty surprised.
I am no fan of HS stocks, but that is a personal fit opinion, not a build quality one...

While H&S Precision stocks are a step above factory Stocks, at the end of the day they fall short of higher quality stock like McMillan, Manners, and chassis like AI. I personally never liked them simply because they don't fit me well, and when in business, a lot of guys would come to me with H&S stocks for replacements. That told me that I'm not the only one they didn't fit well. Also, when I met with them at SHOT, they had a sence of arrogance, which repells me faster than anything. I got news for them, everyone's shit stinks to someone else.

I just got rem 700 338 police with an hs stock, when i got it I checked the action contact to bedding block and it was completely twisted and off center. I ended up machining everything out and doing a complete aluminium devcon job on it.I wasn't impressed at all. Its ok now tho.

I called B&C when I received a stock that had the sling swivel mounted off center and they said it will work just fine as it is. When I explained that I would be mounting a Seekins SRS on it and it needed to be centered they said "oh well". I fixed it myself but I feel like I was treated like crap!!

125 degress?, That can not be right, over in Iraq and Afghanistan it reaches 125 easily on a daily basis, so every M24 over there has a cracked stock?

Wonder if this will bring out the Lawyers, PD's, S/O's, States an the Feds have deep pockets, and you know those trunks an vans get above 125. Could there have been any Shoots that went bad from this defect, maybe it's a hush hush thing,...on need to know only. Well it could be!

It would be interesting to know why some give trouble and others don't. I currently own 3 HS stocks. I've had a few more than that over the years. They've certainly been above 125 degrees and I've never had a problem.
I'm going through the process of switching my rifles over to t4's. I still don't think I would discourage someone from picking up an HS takeoff if the price was fair.

they're still probably made better than the dash boards in dodge trucks. and those are meant to be in directly in the sun inside of a vehicle.

I have three HS stocks, 1 Varmint, and 2 Tactical models. I consider them "ok" stocks. I feel that B&C makes a better product in regards to quality, craftsmanship, consistancy, and customer service. My next stock is gonna be the B&C M40 model.

Sorry to hear about your stock. I just read an article about that same rifle in shooting times. It shot almost as good as a 6500 dollar rifle. good idea on the BA stock trade in. Good luck.

Interesting. Have had no problems with HS stocks on "older" Remington varmint, PSS, and Senderos (older as in prior to 2000 mfg.)
Nor with an LE HSP HTR (2007 mfg) that's had plenty of use and many miles in cars/trucks with temperatures below zero to over 100F.
Wonder if anyone considered how hot the action/lug and barrel channel get when firing long shot strings?
