I have been out 8 days sun up, sun down waiting... All I was seeing were little does and small first season deer, then two days ago he made an appearance but just after legal hunting hours were over.
The wait paid off this morning at 0920. I watched him come my way out of the corn field giving me time to get ready. One shot, broad side through both lungs at 30-40 yards with an Encore 209x50, 100 grain charge of 777 pushing along a Hornady 240 XTP 44mag bullet at about 1750-1800 FPS. Scope is a Burris Signature 1.5-6x40 with illuminated dot at the center of the plex crosshair. And before you ask, that is a 250 yard drop table on the stock that is glowing in the pic for some reason.
He took a little 40 yard jog and expired, which is the longest I’ve had a deer run to date. I may switch back to a 200 XTP next season as that seems to put them down quick and allows bullet recovery usually just under the off side hide.
It looks like his main beam was broken off early while it was still developing.
