and have only done precision reloading for bolt bench guns. So i have to worry about crimping? I have ordered the 3 set Redding die set and need to know what else I will need. What brands of brass make sense for reloading for a semi? i have been looking at blems for pills. Is there any reason to avoid plastic tipped projectiles. Is 155 a reasonable size pill?

Is anyone in the US still selling RWS brass?

The G3/HK91 chews on brass pretty hard, so don't expect to get too many reloads out of them. The fluted chamber aids extraction and will leave some nice powder marks on the necks, but if you shoot fairly hot loads it's not unheard of for the brass to actually deform into the flutes - then it's toast. On top of that, the ejection is pretty violent and can sometimes dent the cases too. I think crimping would be a smart move and FL size every time, even consider bumping the shoulder back a bit more than normal. Most semis require tolerances a bit higher than bolt guns.

It is totally reusable. You will want to stick to mil brass as it will last the longest. I have loaded some commercial brass in mine and it flows into the flutes pretty bad sometimes.

With gov brass like LC it looks like it vaporizes some of the brass off the outside. It could just be etched. Even after polishing you can see where the flutes were.

The hardest part of reloading for them is getting the brass back. I would suggest a brass catcher. You will have to polish your brass or do something to get them clean. You do not want to shove that crap in your die.

When I use mine for hunting I use my brass that has been used many times and just let it fly.

I've had over 20 reloadings on my H&K 91 fired brass. Yep, it looks a bit burnt where the flutes are but doesn't hurt a thing. The ejection buffer works well to keep the dents out. If you don't fire super-hot loads, you shouldn't have a problem with the brass flowing into the flutes.

I've used comercial and I've used LC, both work.

Finding all of your brass, that's a good trick. Friend of mine, shooting out of his driver's side window, the ejected shell put a hole thru his windshield. Ejection is VERY robust.
