They look the same, they have almost identical load data, both made in the same factory......

Re: If 2000MR & CFE are the same..............

i think they are similar but not he same. ive said it before, if company A has something that they market, and it is produced by another company. Why wouldn't they protect that product so company H can't have that supplier make the same product?

Re: If 2000MR & CFE are the same..............

Simply put, not the same. I have shot both out of 308 and 223, and load data/accuracy/velocity are different. 2000mr even has random sticks of powder dispersed throughout the normal ball stuff, cfe does not. While they might come from same basic chemical "start point" I assure you the finished products aren't very similar.

Re: If 2000MR & CFE are the same..............

Mike from Hodgdon just told me they are not the same powder. And there is only one powder manufacturer in the USA that makes double base powders, that would be St Marks.

Re: If 2000MR & CFE are the same..............

They are not the same. 1smalljohnson is a member here who helped develop the 2000MR powder has made it very clear that they are not the same. You can do a search for him or do a search for MK 316 MOD O ammo.

Damn...they aren't the same afterall.

I was literally standing by my co-worker when he called to speak with St Marks about 2000MR and CFE-223...the technician indicated that they were basically the same with minor differnces or something to that end...

I feel silly for relaying non-technical information...

Jgorski,
Are you finding that CFE-223 gives you better velocities than 2000MR even with the heavies (208AMAX and up)?

Havent tried the 208s yet, 12 twist might have something to say about that, from what I shot the other day it looks like Im matching Hornadys Superformance load for the 168.

Re: If 2000MR & CFE are the same..............

JGorski,

The Hornady 168gr superformance lists a velocity of 2840fps from a 24" barrel.

Are you achieving that performance only with CFE-223, 2000MR or both?

Is you barrel length 24"?

Well, Ive got a 26" barrel, but looking at my targets Ive got a 300 yd zero, 5" high @200yds & 3.9" high @100yds. I could post a pic if you like. The velocity has to be very close to that 2840fps.
