That does look really cool. But I do have to ask with all the tools such as MDMs,FDACs and hand held electronic devices with ballistic calculators and the like, is there a need for data books? Or is there a line where one stops and the other begins?

You still need a databook. What happens if your electroinc devices batteries go died or they do not work in the hot or cold weather. Ask me how I know. The databook is your back up.

When all those gadgets fail to provide you with an accurate prediction - and they will, for these reasons, among others, you'll need a place to record what actually worked. That's what the data book is for.

There is other information in the data book that the electronics just cannot have.

If there is one thing that has become very apparent over the years it is that there is no substitute for the actual data. For the reasons stated above as well as many, many others

Some things I would like to see -
1. I shoot mostly at a square range, either 100 or 300 yards. If I am just there for practice, not ranging targets or anything like that, what do I record?

2. If I am shooting something like the dot-drill target, what should I record?

I'm anxious to see the full video. I know I'll learn from it!

There is alot more then where your shots have gone or calling and plotting yoru shots and site setting.

Documenting the mistakes you make shot to shot, the fundimental errors you make and recording your real world data for that environmental set are all things and more that you should be logging into your book.

You will learn alot from your range sessions, saving you money as well as increasing your first round hit percentage!

recording data is a must when a challenging firing solution is called for in a new and different area of operations the more you collect and record,.....the better off you are to be capable of scoring 1st round impacts.....it is simply part of the kit.
