Rifle Scopes IOR 2-12x36 MP8 or CQB reticle???

Re: IOR 2-12x36 MP8 or CQB reticle???

I have them both, and they are equally very nice. Totally different uses though. You say CQB, and if that is the choice and most of your shooting is under 50 yards and requires fast target acquisition the go with the CQB reticle-that is what it was designed for. If you are going to do longer shots and need precision aiming then go with the MP8 reticle.

You cannot shoot a CQB course with an MP8 and win. But then the reticle was not designed for that either.

If I were building a weapon for CQB use it would have a 2 MOA dot, such as aimpoint or eotech. Better and quicker target recognition and both eyes open, thus situational awareness at all times. And it would be NV compatable.

Re: IOR 2-12x36 MP8 or CQB reticle???

I just bought a 2-12x32 from Scott at Liberty Optics. He is a great guy to do business with and if you buy an IOR tactical scope from him before the year end (31Dec10) you get a free set of IOR 8x32 binos (nice and light for your pack) - that is a $300 value.

So on the reticles, I agree with above postings - MP8 Dot is the way to go. It is a great long-range precision reticle.

On the CQB reticle: it strikes me that it does neither CQB or long range (LR) well. CQB isn't great because the mag range (2x) isn't optimal and LR because it's tough to hold/adjust for windage. Also, the BDC is set up for either 556 or 762, so if you are shooting something else or at difference velocities, you are in a tough spot.

Best of luck with your IOR purchase. Check out Liberty Optics.

I would not get the 2-12, I didn't like it.

If it's going to be a heavy barrel rifle that is a range toy I'd save up and get the 3-18x50 FFP if you want to go IOR. Otherwise I'd get the 2.5-10 IOR FFP.

Other scopes to look at would be the USO 10X, Super Sniper HD 10X, Razor HD 5-20, and of course Nightforce 2.5-10, 3-15 and 5.5-22.

No matter which one you buy you will not be "going wrong". Best of luck to you.

I have the IOR FFP 2.5-10 on my LMT .308 with MP-8 dot and really like the reticle. It truly shines when looking at objects beyond 200 yards and the dot makes shot placement easy. I have only taken it to 500 so far and was able to see my hits on a white-painted steel plate through the scope. Another vote for the 2.5-10 with MP-8.

Go with the MP-8 dot reticle for sure. My favorite reticle by far.
I am gonna guess the reason BCP says he didn't like the 2-12 IOR is because it is kind of a pain to get sighted in. And if you are going to change your loads often the Spartan 2-12 may not be the scope you want. I found a load I like, sighted it in with the spartan and love it. Simple to use once you get it done right but not as flexible as other systems.
