Is It Worth Having A Carry Permit Anymore?

I know this is controversial but for those of us who have carry permits in Demwit controlled states, is it worth it anymore? I know the arguments of how you'd rather be tried by 12 instead of carried by 6 and all that. But lets look at the ramifications of carrying in a Demwit hellhole.

Let's say you have to defend yourself and you live and the bad guy dies.

I won't even go into the hurt the state is going to bring onto you and your family. But, if you are charged, you're going to need to liquidate everything you've ever owned just to start the process.

If you're not charged, what do you want to bet that someone will be filing a warrant for a visit by the Gestapo with a Red Law declaration. You will then be forced to give up ALL of your firearms until you're deemed to not be a danger to yourself or society. Well, you just killed someone, so you're never going to get any of your firearms returned, EVER.

I'm not turning mine in but it makes you wonder if it's really worth it anymore...

Well what happens when you get a karen cop stopping you for some silly traffic thing, somehow it gets know you have a gun on you. Options now are all not so good.

Easier to just get the permit, something about picking your battles.

Also good to use honeypots, having your known address one that you’re not often at, but you’ll know if it’s visited, it’s a thought worth thinking about.

The few I know locally to have needed to use lethal force, be it LE or civilian, were treated with upmost respect for the situation. They were cleared, given access to therapy if needed and they now speak at training and ccw classes sharing their experience

Obviously the best answer is to move to a more friendly ccw location. But not always an option with work and what not

Also consider the fact that with the active shootings lately would you want to live the rest of your life knowing you “could” have stopped it or that someone would still be here if you only had been carrying that day

Being in a situation where I needed it didn’t have it, knowing I voluntarily gave up my protection isn’t something I’d want to relive every day.

Get a lawyer and don’t let the adrenaline running in your system throw your mouth in gear while your brains still in neutral

Pending it’s justified you’ll come out just as free as you went in

It's something to think about.

The average person doesn't have to worry about getting searched in a random traffic stop. So there's that. Most demwit states justice system are overrun and even if a firearm was discovered not procecuted. Going certain places has certain risks and sometimes require different precautions. So basically, you do you.

In most cases it is more prudent if the situation arises that you are sure beyond a reasonable doubt that you are defending yourself from great body harm with no means of avoidance before you use a firearm. Like waaaay beyond. Not even sure I would intervene if a convenient store that I was in was being robbed at gunpoint unless hes was either waiving a gun at my family or there was shots fired first.

Survival of me and my family comes before any monetary amount and or threat of legal processes.

Nope. Unless an active shooter is a direct threat to me or someone I care about, I'm not taking direct action. I'll look for a way out or duck and cover until he heads my way....for the very reason the OP started this thread.

Even with that plan in mind. If the shooter targets you early on you still may unknowingly save countless others along with your family. With no way to protect yourself you’ll simply become another statistic

Not necessarily. Some states have laws where if you're cleared criminally, you can't be sued civilly.
Tennessee is one.

Not necessarily. Some states have laws where if you're cleared criminally, you can't be sued civilly.
Tennessee is one.

Massad Ayoob brought out a disappointing bit of reality to many CCW owners that figured being strapped would back up their mouth they were afraid to open and let the tough guy hiding inside that otherwise yearned to get out his or her whole life.

If you were a tough guy that never missed the opportunity to prove it before you carried, the self appointed parking lot police that gets in people's faces for leaving their truck unattended in the Home Depot loading area, you better knock that off and become the polite, peaceful pacifist that avoids conflict.

In fact, you may even have to eat some verbal shit. If you engage in a verbal confrontation, don't back off and it escalates, partly by you when you had every opportunity to break off and walk away, including possibly being called a pussy in front of your wife and family, with the end result your foe ending up in a drawer at a chilly, 34 degrees, you're going to be ruined legally, financially and professionally in less than the reddest jurisdictions, if you're not convicted of manslaughter or whatever the fag, Democrat prosecutor can hang on you.

In my state, having a Carry Permit sends you to the head of the line when doing a background check at a FFL. Approval in 5 minutes vs. 3 days ... is worth the price of admission all by itself.

I have been trying to get my wife to carry for a decade. She’ll make time for hair appointments, but not the CCW class. I’m curious how I am going to work this with her after 6-1. I likely will still encourage her to carry, but also want her to get her permit. We hike in maybe 10 different states and all of them have reciprocity with TN. That alone is worth the cost of the CCW. I also think it’s good to get the little bit of legal Training that comes with a CCW class.

My thought on the matter, at least at this point, is it’s no longer asking permission to self defend. Now a CCW course is another training class, not much different than basic first aide or carbine 1.

That said, I still live in a mostly free state....

My state has constitutional carry, but my main reason was ultra quick transactions at the LGS. All I do is fill out the 4473, flash my permit, pay, and walk out. WV also has reciprocity with many states in the country, so if I travel, I can legally carry elsewhere.

I worked for a very large state PD several years ago as support not a cop.
All the cops I asked indicated people with a CHL had already been checked out and unless it were something stupid (DUI or a felony) were given a break for minor infractions.

Maybe they're scams. But you should have a good 2nd A lawyer on retainer if you carry for when the real fun starts.

We have methheads at the end of our street with friends/clients that constantly drive past our house. In and out of jail, raided by swat, investigated for a murder. We have it for that reason more than anything else. More money than sense I guess. I also have a fire extinguisher I’ll probably never need

Not sure what point you're trying to make. Someone else may benefit from my defending myself? Someone else benefits every time I pay taxes. You could call it unintended consequences...or collateral protection, I guess.

Every law-abiding adult (in my state) has/had the same opportunity to protect themselves and their families.

Can't remember the number of times I've been stopped for speeding. I hand over the required docs and my CCW. Haven't been cited in decades. They usually ask where it is. Some cops want to know what I carry.

ETA: I did get a warning in SC about five years ago for 73 in a 55. Not sure if that counts as a citation. I think having the V on your license helps, as well...at least in the more free states.

These guys have given you lots of good reasons for keeping it. I have another. Every time I’ve been pulled over for speeding, since having my CC, I haven’t gotten a ticket. I give them my DL and CC permit, they hand them back and say have a good day. They don’t even look at my insurance and registration. I even had one Deputy ask me where I was going, I told him the gun store, and tell me to have fun, I’m not the kind of people he’s looking for. So yeah, my CC, if nothing else, has paid for itself.

I ran into a couple of Travis Co. motorcycle cops at a convenient store west of Austin. Not sure how the conversation started, I think I commented on one's dbl action Para Ordinance 1911, but it ended up with us aiming and dry firing each others 1911's to compare triggers. They didn't even ask to see my permit.

The people sitting right on the other side of the glass in a next door pizza place were like WTF?

I think having CPL is actually a benefit. This doc gives certain flexibility in many places, and without "need" to shoot anyone in self-defense.
Since I got it, I was able to purchase handguns in a relatively easy way, and if I have to carry, I'm "authorized" by many states to do so.

OP makes some good points. However, even in a Constitutional Carry state, having the permit has advantages. Others have mentioned a much easier time when making a firearm purchase. Worked for me this spring. However, the biggest advantage is when traveling in states that have reciprocity. No worries when carrying in those states. Its a safety factor.

Plus, when going through the process of obtaining ours, every member of the police force we encountered, strongly encouraged us to get the permit. Its like, one worry they don’t have to carry (pun not intended)

Wasn't aware that some states shield individuals involved in lawful shootings from being sued. All states should be that way. I read a number of sources that question whether one should get involved with protecting individuals other than yourself or your family. Pretty much stated you are under no obligation to do so and probably should not. I found that very jarring and brutally cold but understand the reasoning.

Unfortunately I live in the same socialist (communist) state as you and sometimes it doesn't work that way.
My permit expired even though I tried to get it renewed before the expiration date. They gave me a receipt and said it was good . Went to buy a shotgun and my background check was rejected! Not denied. Took three months and 2 receipts, they're only good for 45 days. Also I've seen people with ccp take longer than a day to get background checks. Oregon can't keep up with the background checks . Over 7000 in the backlog!

I also don’t get why OR won’t honor a WA permit, pretty similar states.

The fact that permits are accepted across the county like drivers license is crazy, heck the fact we even need permits is disgusting.

I went thru the ccw class, they got to the part where in Tx if you travel out of county then its legal to carry anyways. I never got the permit afterwards. Im 40 now and have never used a gun to save my life, i train and carry everyday so.... yeah, i probably will never fire a shot in anger in my lifetime. Since january the ar 10 is in the back seat along with my pistol on me.
