It's unclear to me why Trump ever brought Bolton into his inner circle in the first place, considering that the men seem to have little common ground. Maybe this is an example of why hitting someone just because he pisses off the political opposition isn't necessarily a great idea.
Bolton, for his part, is demonstrating that he's a classless asshole. If nothing else, his behavior hopefully guarantees that he'll never again find employment in a position of influence and power.

My point is that even though he's declared himself a firearm hater and considers the 2nd Amendment to have no place in modern times, he has the strength of character to oppose efforts to judicially interpret the Amendment out of relevance for fear of the damage it will do to the Constitution as a whole.
