You don't have to sneak. You just have to look like someone you aren't while you do the dirty work.
Let's say you buy an old but working hulk out of a port in Karachi using a multiple backstopped front corporation that is a complete dead end out of Singapore. Then you sell it to another corporation of the same nature out of Cyprus or somewhere like that.
Then you take it to do the deed of blowing the pipeline.
Then on the way back it happens to get caught in Hurricane Ian as the vessel seems to be making its way "back" to Cuba. It sinks with all hands on board. But really the hands have been taken off 4 hours earlier by helo to a waiting USGC ship that is performing "rescue" mission duties in the Hurricane area.
Perfect mission, completely backstopped, and it doesn't matter one damn bit that the Baltic Sea is covered with sonar monitoring.
Not saying that's what happened, but that is how this kind of thing works.
We will see there is a new bill before them to do just that.
Although the old bill from 2010 or so would have worked......until they rapidly repealed its working provisions.

I'm not hopeful. One of the things I loved about Trump was his term limit suggestion. Probably why they hate him.
If we step back a little from this it becomes somewhat worse than the geopolitics of it all: an organization or government yet to be identified has decided that no NG will be coming from Russia; the lives lost and GDPs crushed don’t matter AND are acceptable costs - they are the necessary price for others (the innocent citizen victims) to pay for this org/group/govt to acquire their goal. That’s evil. Entire nations are being willingly sacrificed for selfish purposes. The sheer number of countries affected by this event moves the conflict fully into a regional if not world war. Time will tell which it is.

They wouldn't need divers just one small remote controlled submarine or access to the pipeline to put a "pig" inside it. Or if they could do something to screw with the mixture/pressure of the gas so as to make that length of pipe unstable.
As stated a few weeks ago when someone asked if we can call this a world war yet. Again I say not yet. But, if things keep going in the direction it is then it’s likely it could be soon enough. One can only hope some people pulling strings see the light before it gets there. But clearly most of them seem to want this.

But this would keep others away so they could work.

I doubt explosives would be used. There would be too much risk of leftover debris from the devices and charges themselves. And there are underwater listening devices thats been installed in the ocean waters since the cold war. Very Very Very sensitive devices that can filter manmade equipment, and underwater vehicles using automation and software.
But with a NATO navy exercise going on, Maybe the noise was ignored?

Didn't refuel in the UK, flew from the US, refueled over Germany, orbited the Nordstream damage site, then flew back to the US. They left the US before it happened. An ASW like the P-8 could carry, would have the size to register an EQ like the Swedes picked up.
All along everyone was thinking divers on a boat or undersea drone. Nobody was thinking of a air-dropped device.

Yup. Russia will survive because unless the US goes all in, there is no western country with the resources to attempt to crush Russia. Also, nukes will be used if Russia gets desperate. In the end Europe will be second world city states again.
At this point I believe Washington wants a victory in Ukraine by November elections. Then they'll shoot for toppling Putin by late summer 2024 (again, timed with elections).
I think Xi may get nervous if it looks like Russia may fall. That's their only big power buddy (in BRICS). Putin is already nervous. Pretty much certain we or one of two allies did Nordstream in. That kills Germany as a power. Who's left?
