Is the aero precision SOLUS worth buying

The folding stock hinge. They're tinkering with them now. They need to get them out asap, the fixed stock is by far the worst feature of the entire solus system. Fortunately they were planning for the hinge from the outset though.
Awesome, yeah, I felt the rigid stock was kind of a pisser when toting it to and from the truck and range. The folder will be nice. I’m glad it will be retrofitting with the original chassis.

Every time I see this chassis, it makes me want it more and more. Looks awesome!
Got to the range today and can say it is the most comfortable compact chassis I’ve used.

The action ran perfectly and was very smooth and fast. For my non-warzone uses, it seems pretty damn good. I had the stock Aero barrel cut down to 17” and it shot well under MOA for the two groups I had time to shoot after sighting in.

So, out of curiosity, has it been determined who this mystery guy is who “has more rounds through a Solus than anyone else and says they’re junk” in Washington State? That was talked about in this thread, but shall not be named, along with all the secret squirrel proof and evidence that us peons are not privy to? 😂

I’m excited about getting my Solus built, but I forgot that on The Hide, you’re not allowed to be excited about scopes that cost less than $1,500 and actions that cost led than a CDG… 🤣

John, one question I have… My Solus action wrench says +/- 75 ft. Lbs. on it, but some smiths say 90 for any action. What do you recommend for torquing the barrel on?
Unsure, I would need to look for the thread. I would torque it as listed but make sure you put some anti seize on the threads.

Gotcha. It was on a YouTube video that the guy said several big name smiths typically torque their actions to 90, but the wrench says 75. So, I figured 75 was recommended, but was curious as to the validity of the claims that 90 might be better? Didn't know if yall had tried it all the way up to see what worked best in your testing, since it was your design.

I've got a tube of TW25B here on the bench. 👍🏼

Folder just came back from coating for final testing. New bolt heads will drop around shot show
Will the magnum LA's be releasing around SHOT as well? I need one for my 7mm PRC build.

Also, any chance of maybe doing some heavy spiral fluting on the bolts to fancy them up (and lighten them up) a little bit? It gives that custom action appearance.

Heavy fluting ruins the smoothness of some bolts (like Tikka). One thing I do appreciate about my Impacts is the very light fluting - just enough to be functional and carry debris away.

Yep, and I have Hornady 6.5 CM brass that has been reloaded several times and is still good. I have Lapua and ADG now but I'm not going to toss a 1000 pieces of brass because the internet says it's bad. :)

Okay but don’t come cry on here when you have case necks split 3 firings in.

@Maurygold and @Tokay444 , I am worried about you two because I think you are both suffering from an anal-cranial-impaction and should get looked at. ;)

I’ll teach you how to shoot if you’re ever near the panhandle. Leave your 6.5 Grendel in an oryx chassis at home though we’ll be doing some real shooting

You aren't entitled to all the details, sorry. Those that need to know already do. But the fact is the action is not where it needs to be, even at the price it’s selling for.

This is why most of the people with the most knowledge and experience do not post on forums. Its all risk and no reward.
Probably the most embarrassing kindergarten shit I’ve ever read on this forum. Why would you do this to yourself?

Anyway - I picked one up during the BF sale at the mistake price that Aero had the integrity to stand on. No magic revelations about the gun. It’s very nice for the price point, and a great value.

Not as smooth as a high dollar custom, but even those aren’t as nice as my factory SSG3000. Far nicer than a Bergara, and the chassis is excellent. It’ll be even better when the hinge comes out. The barrel is decent, too, but built copper pretty fast in the first 60 rounds. I expect that to change. We’ll see how it holds, and a decent prefit will be on the way if the performance falls off.

I’ve had a small handful of problems with Aero stuff in the past, and they’ve always fixed what was wrong. They make an excellent product and stand behind it. I expect these guns to continue gaining market share, and they should nicely bring some new shooters into the sport.

Recommended.

Decided to resurrect this thread after spending several months with a SOLUS .308 M24 20" version. Long story short, I am impressed how well this factory built rifle performed right out of the box. I was averaging 1/2 MOA with Federal 168 match. The cold bore consistency has been impressive and POA/POI shifts have been non-existent so far. I realize 3-round groups aren't the gold standard, but below is what I'm averaging every range day. The only downside is the M24 barrel is heavy, and the folding stock adapter needs to come out soon (cleaning is a royal pain).

Two weeks ago, I said "f it" and picked up one, Bravo stock though. Heavy, yes, love it so far, just wanted an "old school" rifle to enjoy. I do hope they release a .223 version. The only thing bad is more mag related I guess, metal are great, Magpuls had to be tweaked a tad as I had bolt drag and the nose of the Sig Cross followers had to be trimmed down as the bolt lugs would catch on it. Just a tad, maybe 3/32 worth.

On Memorial Day I picked up one of their barreled actions and chassis for a huge sale, (2nd Solus)...I got the 20" M24 .308 Win. It has been fairly picky with what bullets it likes. It had a consistent flier or 2 out of every 5 shot group...It doesn't seem to like Nosler bullets at all (Custom Comp or RDF). I haven't tried Bergers yet. But it does seem to like the Hornady 168 ELD-M bullets so far...

All the real world results I've read have made me decide I'm gonna go the solus route once I finally squirrel enough away to add another rifle and all the extra bits to reload for it. Till then, the "cheap" remmy in 223 will keep forcing me to learn more.

My Evolved Ballistics/Blue Mountain Precision 20" Proof 7.5" twist .25 Creed barrel showed up today... They do excellent work! The barrel threads are perfect, and all the threading and chamber are polished up and clean. They also put the neck and freebore of the chamber on the side of the barrel. So I torqued the barrel on with my old MAC 3/8" torque wrench, and the Solus action wrench to 80 ft. lbs., and mounted my SAC Modular barrel vise (35 ft. lbs for the big 3/8" allen bolt that holds the barrel still) in my Sawtooth Rifles Dependabite ARCA vise jaws, and it was solid as a rock. Checked HS with a set of Manson Go/NoGo gauges, and everything checked out perfect. So, she's good to go. Now, the only thing left to do is wait on my new set of ARC Medium 34mm rings to show up, because the Lows are too low for a 56mm scope with a Sendero profile Proof barrel. Hopefully they show up by Friday or Saturday so I can shoot it this weekend... If not, then it won't be ready to shoot until next weekend.

I just have to say, this barrel is beautiful... They really put some nice grains in this one, very flashy, and the machine work done by Blue Mountain Precision is exceptional...I'll definitely be calling them for another barrel in the future.

I swapped my new Viper HD 5-25x50 sitting in Low ARC rings on the, and it BARELY clears the barrel, I’ll get a pic when I get home. It was just one of those “let’s see for the sake of science” moments. My new Medium 34mm ARC rings will be here today, so the Razor G3 will be going back on the .25CM, as originally planned, I just had to pull it for lack of fitment. I just wanted to see how much difference there was, and as far as weight is concerned…Night and day. The Viper HD is so light, I could actually hunt with this rifle in current configuration, with just the simple scope swap from the Razor to the Viper, and changing nothing else.
