I ran 10 rounds of 175gr BH .308 (2009 manufacture, didn't pull lot number) over the chronograph yesterday, starting with a cold bore. Shooting a DPMR LRT SASS, factory 1:10 twist 18" SS barrel. Chronograph was a CED M2, 10' from the muzzle.

Average velocity was 2428fps, not corrected for MV.

Temp was about 50F, 900' ASL, did not measure humidity but was shooting through a very light sprinkle of rain.

Does this seem a tad slow, or am I seeing temp/altitude effects? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The 175's are rated at 2600fps (no barrel length given).

Your velocity is OK for your barrel length. Loss of only 172fps.

It's certainty not the fastest but I wouldn't call it out of spec or a bad lot. As others pointed out, an 18" barreled semi's velocity will be a bit lower than a 24" bolt gun.

a bit on the slow side. Depending on the range of your shots, may want to go to a lighter bullet.

It sounds about right for the low temp. How was the accuracy? I've had very good results with 175SMK's at 2400fps.

Maybe try the Corbon 190gr. load if you can get a hold of it, should come out even faster even though it is rated the same velocity. At a 1,000 yards it's at least 40" less drop and 16" less drift if the same velocity.
