Palatka, Fl
Joe aka .257 and myself are heading home still 800+ miles to go.
We finally got the invite on sacred guarded piece of property that our father in laws have hunted for the past 8 years. Luck would have it that on opening day we both killed nice deer. Joe has been hunting for 6 years for a 160 plus and driving out I said I would have a hard time passing a a big 8

As the sun rose I was looking at a big mature 8. I looked at him for all of an hour and my tag was filled

Joe lasted all of 8 hours on the stand when a huge framed 10 came walking out

50 hours of traveling. 3 years of preference points and it was all over the first day
310 inches of horn is heading back to Florida

here is some video of my deer ----

Re: Kansas bucks down

Damn, You looked at that deer for an hour!!! I would have watched him all the time it took to get my rifle to my shoulder and squeeze the trigger.. Fine looking deer. Congrats to both of you.

Re: Kansas bucks down

William yes that is "the turd" what we call the gun. The 260 and 140 vlds got it done

Joe used his 280ackley with 180's

Both hit the dirt hard. I shot my deer quartering away put it up behind the shoulder he jumped took 2 steps and started to stagger. I put one more in the shoulder it wasn't needed but I shoot till they are down

With 6.5mm vlds being so scarce I would recommend everyone to build a bigger gun

Better stock up then as I'm going to build another 260 for myself. I'll have two at that point and one will have a diet of 140 VLD's only. Word is they'll be on the shelf come January. I'll start with 1k.

Re: Kansas bucks down

Just be sure to get the hunting bullets. Shot 2 pheasants with 1 shot with the match bullets. Penciled through birds flew off

Was trying for minimal damage for a mount. Didn't know they would act like that

There! I fixed it for you

When I saw that big 'ol buck and thought they don't grow 'em that big in Palatka.... Not even in the bottom of that draw. Aaaahh, then I read the rest of the story.

Re: Kansas bucks down

Two nice Bucks,Congrats. We went pheasant hunting in Kansas this year. Walked about 20 miles in 5 days.We seen many nice whitetails and a few mulies. We came upon two large whitetails fighting about three hundred yards out. The younger man with us ran down the ravine and got to within about 20 yards from them before one of the bucks realized he was standing behind them. They both seperated and the one buck faced off with the lad. Lucky his dumb ass wasn't gored! We had a hec of a trip, seeing many pheasants on the walk in areas.A+ for Kansas
