I just got some new Winchester brass, 30-06, only one bag of 50. Actually, I got them a few weeks back. Tonight I brought them out to get them resized, prepped and ready to stuff. Inside each and every one of them there is a fine orange, almost rust colored dusty film. Never seen this before. Should I just tumble them up and go about my business or try to get replacements from Win.?

I had some bad ammo come from midway usa. I called them and the told me to keep it and they sent out a new box free of charge. Turns out I had a bad fireing pin spring.

Sounds like it was tumbled or finished with something like Lyman's tuf-nut. It's walnut shell and polishing/jeweler's rouge.

Got to love the "I deserve something for nothing" crowd.

I found the exact same thing with the Winchester brass, I loaded that same brass up last night for the 6TH firing and they are still good to go.

Thanks for your two bits on my character, but FYI I checked the other brass I ordered and it's all the same, meaning I need to tumble it all before I size it, which I normally don't do and I have also gotten pieces of brass from them here or there that I couldn't use from the get go and didn't complain to them, though I paid for 50 pieces and didn't get it.

Also, thank you to the members who helped to answer the questions I asked.

I wouldn't say you "need" to tumble it, but it was a suggestion by a bunch of members here. I have used the the red media by Lyman, and would say you are good to go unless there is crap just falling out of the cases. I wouldn't try to get something for nothing in this case, harden the fuck up

In my experience Winchester hasn't been the greatest brass. I have culled out a few 25 WSSM right out of the factory bag that were bad. I'm not going to lose sleep over a few pieces.

Re: Keep it and use it or send it back?

i have a 30-06 also and have been using remington brass but i need to order more brass. so i was wondering what has the best longevity? i heard some are getting 30 or so reloads out of lapua's but i don't know if that's here say or actual truth.
