It truly has been a long time since i've seen this movie. I had forgotten how astonishing it was. Weighing in at 144minutes for the theatrical version alone Ridley definitely put some time into this movie and it's not loaded with action as gladiator is. But it has enough to suffice for those action addicts IMO. The cinematography is absolutely stunning as well as the score. It might be that i just love the era of the crusades versus all the others. I'm looking to pick up the directors cut which is 194minutes but is supposedly the 10/10 that Ridley intended to be. Instead of the 7/10 that the theatrical version got. Anyone else love this movie?

Love that scene. The movie has an amazing cast too. Edward Norton was great as the king with leprosy Movie has a lot of great moments and quotes. One of my favorites is the Oath to become a knight and when Imad says "Your quality will be known among your enemies, before ever you meet them."

That trailer is also probably one of the best done theatrical trailer for a movie. Thing that will bug me probably forever, is that the beautiful guitar melody at the beginning and at 0:30 is made by riptide music supposedly joe webb's "Ghost rise" is the name of the piece yet it can be found nowhere.

Just picked up the director's cut in Blu-ray, ready to see if it lives up to the 10/10 everyone gives it.

First impression of opening scene is it looks amazing, as most can gather from certain movies of how they will transition into blu ray.

    Re: Kingdom of Heaven

the directors version is definitely much better. I love period films of this quality.

If you are looking for a good read set in the crusades, read, The Religion.

Agreed there is so much left out in the theatrical cut that leaves plot holes, that the directors cut fills. Wish more movies were made like this, braveheart, gladiator, and so on, you really don't see movies like that anymore, not of this quality anyway.

I've now watched the directors cut 4 days in a row..can't help but love the setting, score, and the crusades. Also as said before Ridley is a genius and there is nothing like the scene after the battle of Kerak and seeing the glooming cross on the horizon and the entire army of jerusalem on it's way to defend Kerak. The look on Imads face is priceless.

    Re: Kingdom of Heaven

I love this movie too, and have not even seen the directors cut yet. Most things Ridley Scott are favorites for me. Gladiator, Man on Fire, awsome flicks. Music, story, cinematograghy are all good.

    Re: Kingdom of Heaven

You need to pick up the directors cut as it fills in so many plot holes that you'll ask yourself why they even bothered with the theatrical cut. I wish ridley directed Man On Fire, as it's a great movie but his brother Tony did that one.

As for Ridley's movies well most are great with the exception of one maybe two(Robin Hood) For some reason i never liked american gangster, guess i was too immature to enjoy it, i'll have to watch it again eventually.
    Gladiator
    Kingdom Of Heaven
    Black Hawk Down
    Body Of Lies
    Hannabil
    Alien

One of my favorites for sure! It does plenty of questioning regarding the established order, the church, etc. which I think is always interesting. Lots of "cinematic license" on the characters, most of whom were based on real people but NOT on real relationships and settings.

I love the dynamic between Balian, Imad, and Saladin- it really makes you think about how the world has lost some of that respect and virtue.

    Re: Kingdom of Heaven

ridley scott is just epic as hell

the guy made black hawk down, gladiator, kindom of heaven..the list goes on..

if ridley made a big movie with the main stars being Liam Neeson, and Daniel Day Lewis, and a supporting cast of people like dicaprio, bloom, jeremy irons the world would explode due to the awesomness!

Like I need any encouragement to spend an additional 30 minutes oogling Eva Green.

Seriously, I had a ripped copy of the director's cut before I'd read your post but hadn't bothered to watch it. It does make a BIG difference.

Yeah i love Eva Green she's beautiful. Some people don't find her that attractive but there is something about her that peaks my interest for some reason. She's great in Casino Royale.

    Re: Kingdom of Heaven

Just finished watching the director's cut. Wow! I was a fan of the theatrical version but some of plot holes always drove me crazy. It all makes much more sense now.
