Based on previous female lead spy films though, it doesn’t look promising. However Haywire was great and Gina did a fantastic job.

So you didn’t like DC as Bond? I thought it was a needed “gritty” update to Bond. That being said, I love burning through my 007 collection during the holidays as well. Sean Connery, in my opinion, was the best “older” Bond in the franchise.

I’m just pissed I purchased the collection before Blu-Ray was a thing so now I’m debating on getting the entire BR collection or waiting for an Ultra Super 1,890,533K Dark Blu-Ray Enhanced HD version that gets implanted into my brain by Boston Dynamics.

I agree. I could care less who's in the movie as long as it's good. I thought Idris Elba would have been a good fit, but we'll see go how this one plays out. I haven't seen a good action movie in a while.

I can see that. I did like the suave slick style of Connery. It would have been nice effect if they could have meshed the grittiness with the slick mannerisms but in an age where garbage like Transformers and Fast & Furious fills seats, you have to pander to the ones filling seats. I hate it but I get it.

Interesting to see how they go forward with this. Maybe it will bomb and they’ll only do one or two films with her or maybe it will surprise us and actually be a good run. I hope it dies well but I will admit I’m hesitant due to all of the female lead spy flops. :/

Well, I'm not so sure.....

I did some reading on this, and I don't think anything has been set in stone yet. The way I understand it, the beginning of the new movie (to be released next year) has James Bond (still played by Daniel Craig) in retirement. Thus, he has relinquished is "007" designation. There is apparently a scene where M says "come in 007" and this new actress enters. She is not "James Bond", she is the new (at least at that stage of the movie) holder of the 007 designation.

The way I read it, James is drawn back into service to deal with our old friend Blofeld, but it is not clear as to whether is is reinstated as 007 or not. That remains to be seen.

And since they've pretty much run out of original Ian Flemming novels to base (sometimes VERY loosely) the Bond movies on, I think we will see considerable "drift" in future story lines. On the surface of it, I'm not opposed to having a female play the 007 character. There have been a few pretty decent spy movies with female leads, so it's not really new territory. As long as they keep a decent story line and don't go too crazy on the whiz-bang stuff (like they did with some of the Roger Moore films, some of which were pretty awful) I think it could be OK. I'll give it a shot!

I agree. The outcry over Craig was because he was blonde(dumb) but his portrayal in Casino Royale completely revitalized the franchise because it was much better acting, action, cinimatography, and grit.

I played GoldenEye on N64 and thought it was an awesome movie but watching it now they needed a refresh for the times. The last one with Brosnan was painful.

This "refresh" is simply PC bullshit though, Hollywood literally can't help themselves and it is killing films and franchises left and right. Star Wars and now Bond.

As if we don't have enough action movies with "strong female leads" that are unrealistic and meant to make us think that biology isn't real and women are just as physically capable as men. No wonder the US lesbian soccer team and so many millennials are such ignorant twats.

its a difficult topic to address but on that has to be, female 007 beating up dudes will be something impossible to pull off and made realistic. physically, she will over-power over and over. I'd love to go watch an American spy movie staring a woman (especially Halle Berry!) Then there's Felix Leiter. I thought Jeffrey Wright did a great job! There's another potential James Bond spin off that for the PC crowd, could have taken off and done very well, if a creative writer/producer had run with it. But sadly, we have to go after someone else's ideas, because we can't come up with our own.

To your point about Godzilla, I agree, we go to the movies to "check out" and be entertained. You have to consider the genre though. A sci-fi movie about a giant lizard eating cities is science fiction. Depending on the movie/genre we suspend some reality which actually makes it kind of fun. Bond is closer to reality. So leave it the F alone!

That being said, I enjoy movies that maintain logical results even when components of reality are suspended.
Like Jurassic Park for example. It's implausible (for now) that velociraptors and T-Rex could be cloned. But it happens in the books and movies. Cool, fun plot. In the books the hunter starts blowing up raptors with a grenade launcher, with good effect. In the movies only the nice hippies/environmentalists survive the Carnage. Anyone with a gun who wishes to defend against or kill Dino's gets eaten. Is that realistic? NO! It's virtue signaling by Spielberg. He's changing a likely outcome( people with guns living) to send a message. And it's stupid. Those movies could be much better with more realism.

I have no problem with a movie like wonder woman. It was well done and explained well why she's amazing.

Not to be that guy but Rhonda Rousy would not kick my ass. She's a great female fighter but I have 100+ lbs and inches in reach over her. Could she knock me out on any day? Maybe. I'm not a ufc fighter but I'm trained a bit and physical size, bone density and muscle mass do matter. We get a few films once a year or so that are original and great like Blade Runner 2049 or The Hateful Eight other than that cinema is terrible this day in age. Honestly the only Genre that is trying is the horror. This is what I've read as well. I think people need to settle down a little bit. Craig wants out of the franchise and they're in a transition period. They're not reinventing the James Bond character, just reassigning the 007 codename. Might it suck? For sure. But I'll reserve judgement for now.

It's easy to call it a SJW move, but honestly, after 26 or whatever it is movies, I think they're needing to try something new. Make a movie or two with her, see how they do, and go from there. Probably will end up recasting Jame Bond in the next few years and start the 007 franchise over somewhat fresh. I honestly can't even remember the plot lines of 2/4 Craig movies, and from the RT scores not many other people liked QoS or Spectre.

I gotta agree, I was really hoping Idris would be the next 007, he’s definitely a seasoned actor and fits the part to do it justice to the role. A bit saddened with the whole “the future is female” vibe Hollywood is still running with. I mean don’t get me wrong, a talented actor/actress can do any role justice and make or break a film, I just don’t like how forced it’s been lately. Will I still go watch it? Absolutely.
