Victor,

Keep me posted on your experience, and let me know if there's anything I can do for you. Been out there many times, and it's a first rate facility. Based on our Service Center in Schonebeck, Germany, it adds the capability to record groups at both 50 and 100 meters simultaneously for the same string. We keep a rather large assortment of both Lapua and S-K ammunition on hand, allowing you to try a number of different types, and lots of any given ammo before making a selection. In the case of sending a rifle in, Darrell will test various types and lots within your parameters and email you the results, complete with print outs of the actual targets themselves. From there, you can select the ones which match your needs.

I did the trip some time back to select ammo for a smallbore prone gun, and it was very worthwhile. I found a lot of Midas+ that shot very well in my rifle, and picked up a case for my competition needs. I also found some S-K Rifle Match that shot nearly as well, and was perfectly suitable for training ammo and use at lower level matches. Picked up three cases of that, so I'm set for now. By all means, let us know how it goes for you!

Kevin,

Thanks for your input. I greatly appreciate it. Especially from a competitor like yourself. I have records from almost 30 different brands / batches from very cheap to the Eley was kind of expensive. In my Kimber G82 the SK Rifle Match shot the best groups of all that I tested from the bench. My hopes are that they can shrink the groups just a bit more with different batches or lot numbers. I'm working on my D. E. badge and really need all the help I can get.

I'll make a repost of what ever happens after I send the rifle in to them.

Thanks for your time.

I brought my 1827 Fortner to the Mesa facility a few months ago. They ended up putting the barrel in a barrel vise fixture because there was not a jig made up for my action. FYI, apparently if the action is glass bedded into your stock the ammo testing is more successful vs not bedded when done in a stock fixture, as Darrel was apprehensive try it that way. I ended up with some very accurate ammo for my rifle at a reasonable price in the end.

I'd call and ask if they have a jig fixture for your Kimber and if not ask them if they'll make one up for you.

Also if you want the SK ammo ask if they have a good supply in stock. When I was there they were sold out, or I should say a huge amount of the SK ammo was set aside already for some shooting teams.

This is on my "someday soon" list to send my Anz64 to be tested. I'm going to wait until (hopefully) ammo isn't in super high demand so I can get several cases of it at once. Would any of you be willing to ballpark the cost of the testing fee? I can calculate shipping to and from cost for the rifle. Thanks!!

It's only a $50 fee for the test.

If you buy retail from the facility they waive the fee.

Huh!? I was expecting something in the range of $250-$300. I'm guessing that $50 fee does not include the cost of ammo used in testing. I'll have to make contact and see what their current stock levels are for SK and Center-X. Thanks for the info!

Did you ever send your rifle to the service center?
