Saw these on sale @europtic and thought it would make a good SFP hunting scope .
Does anyone have experience / opinions about this German designed American assembled line of scopes ?
On paper everything looks GTG , I'm thinking about purchasing the 4x20 with the mag ballistic reticle .
Thanks !

I am testing the 2-10x50 and I like it so far. Good optics. Stays zeroed. Magnum ballistic reticle is not my favourite, but other reticles look very usable.

I am not fully done with it, but my impressions so far are good.

What rifle do you have the ER5 mounted to and is it for a hunting application only ?
I'm planning on mounting this optic on my 300WM .
Thanks !

Right now, it is sitting on top of a tripod next to a bunch of other scopes, since I am doing a low light comparison with it. Once I am done with that, it will go back on top of my 308Win Mauser. Generally, I do not like hold over reticles in SFP scopes too much, unless they form a mrad or MOA scale at top magnification. The reticle in the Magnus does that, but the one in the ER5 does not. Aside from that, it is a perfectly respectable reticle design, just not my thing.

Please let me know how your testing turns out , I'm considering this scope for hunting or the Vortex PST GEN II as an all around option even though it's a little more expensive .
Thanks !

In my opinion the ER5 and PST II aren’t very “comparable” and find it odd that you are considering these two optics for comparison. Something tells me you’re getting sucked in with the 1/2 off price and thinking “that’s a $1200 scope for $600, that’s a hell of a good deal” when odds are before the email you didn’t even know that line of optics existed. Could be wrong but seems a safe bet.

“MY” take on theses two

ER5 -

pure hunting scope
shit reticles
hunting style turrets. Like to dial much?
light weight 23oz for a 4-20
likely great glass coming from Leica

Vortex-

mid level tactical optic
great reticles
exposed turrets
built to be used and has a warranty that makes all companies pale in comparison
weight 32oz with 5-25
glass on par with mid level tactical optics

If 300 hunting at 300yds with a 300 WM is your goal the Leica will serve you fine as I’m sure it has phenomenal glass, like most $1000+ featureless hunting optics. If you don’t mind the weight the PST 2 will do just as well, though I imagine you might get a few more minutes of shooting light with the Leica...but that’s an assumption. Anything over 300 yards and I would look elsewhere.

My wife shoots a custom 7rm with a Zeiss HD 5-25, it has great glass, exposed turrets, and tracks great. I use it to work up load data on new rigs as I love the glass and super thin reticle for shooting groups. It had better have great glass for having ONE feature, the exposed turrets, for a $1000 - $1200 hunting optic. I shoot it out to a 1000 yds with her hunting rig.

If you’re intending to do anything over 300 yards and want a usable reticle or use exposed usable turrets go PST 2 or look for something else. Anyone that tries to sell you on these euro reticles is a shit stabber in my opinion.

Good luck

The PST II is my first choice as the reticle matches my RAZOR GEN II , the price point on the Leica is what caught my attention and I know nothing about the ER5 line and posted this to learn about the ER5 . I'll take a look at the ZEISS HD also .
Thanks !
