Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Walking back to my vehicle this morning I saw one in a field and decided to go back this afternoon. There were a pair on a round bale at 653 meters. Sorry 714 yards, I have to get used to saying that for when we get annexed.

Hit one in the right rib cage and he and ran to a broken bale about twenty yards away. When I was 175 yards away he got up and moved off again while I was setting up to finish him so I shot with my pack hanging off my arm and I think I got him in both back ankles. He went down again but was still around and took a third shot in the right eye when I got closer.

Sorry to be so graphic but he was a tough coyote and it was a rather eventful hunt!

We've had so many firearms prohibited here you couldn't get us to be violent if you tried.

Most people up here disagree but I wouldn't mind jumping on the winning team and getting that suppressor I've always wanted.

TWO DOG DAY ;)

The dry spell is finally over. After missing one yesterday, and not having shot a coyote in about a month, I opened up a can of whoopass on two today. One at 375 yards, and the second at 300.

6mm Creedmoor, 87 grain vmax MV 3405. Impact velocity approximately 2500 and 2670 fps respectively . The further one in the grass and weeds was DRT. The second one was hit a little far back and spun around, and I put a second round in it for good measure.

It took the coyotes several weeks before they started working on a dead cow. I'll be back there at daylight.

If there's a better bullet for coyotes at medium range... I am not aware of it.

Here’s my first coyote of night season in Illinois back in November. Biggest and best looking one I’ve ever gotten. 54LBs. 6mm creed. Zero trace of blood, could not even find the entry or exit would. Should have him back from the taxidermy around August.

Dude, 54lbs is a once in a lifetime coyote outside of that new York/ Pennsylvania area. Can't wait to see the mount. He's gorgeous too.

I have one more on trail cams behind my house that is very similar to this one. He’s smart. I tried stalking a few times. One of these days he will mess up, and come in closer than 1200 yards. But ya, they’re typically 30-35lbs. I was amazed when I got this one. Can’t wait to get the mount.

Here’s one I got on the run a little while back.
I never realized there was a coyote hunting thread. It’s addicting stuff with a thermal. It just sucks because it’s always so damn cold and windy here for night season. I missed one by about 6” at 700 yards with 20mph variable crosswinds a few weeks ago. I don’t usually take those long shots, but this one taunts me at 1000 yards all the time. He won’t come close. So I sent it.

Runner was at like 230-240 something. 2nd pic was at 450.
