LMT .308 MWS

I need to stop looking for rifles. Ran across a slick side.

At first I thought I'd sell mine and get it but now I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

The slick side weighs like 1/2 lb less? Should I look into it? I'd have to get what it costs for the slick for mine which might not be a problem.

I picked up an LMT MWS about a month or so ago. I traded a bolt gun to get it and I'm debating parts to get for it. I was looking at a Vortex 4-16 FFP and was debating on putting it in a Spuhr mount. Will the 20MOA Spuhr mount in the 1.18 inch height be sufficient for this rifle? I will be installing a set of Surefire RTS irons in conjunction and am curious if the scope will clear them at this height. I have a Larue LT104 mount on a 16 inch carbine that wears a 1-4 Vortex PST and while its ok, I'm wondering if thats my best choice to do long range work with? I just want to make sure all my bases are covered before I order a $420 mount.

Yes. I also have a griffin PHS suppressor in route.

Saryan,
Installed the GA 5.56 and 7.62, tried it, and WOW!!! What a huge difference it made over the the stock A2 and AAC blackout. I was impressed with the ease of installation and the quality out of the box. I will be ordering 4 more sets from RangerWalker71 (GA dealer). Again, Thank you for the recommendation!

such an awesome looking rig... nice set up brother.

Shot the LMT with the 18"SS barrel today. Zeroed it in two rounds and then fired this 5 round group. Ammo was m118LR.

Last shot was the high one. Pretty chilly here today and the bag set up was not ideal. Shot some more groups using hand loads and 178's but I didn't get anything amazing. Took a little video with the go pro when I stretched it to 600.

This weekend I'm trying an H2 buffer for the 20" .260 barrel. Seeing as the gun came as a 16" CL .308, the H3 kinda makes sense, I guess.

Do the other factory configurations come with different buffers?

anyone have the 260 or 6.5 creed barrel? If so how does it perform? What Kind of Velocity are you getting out of it? what loads you using? etc....

I have the 20" .260 barrel. I have gotten between 2700fps and 2950fps, depending on the load. It has produced some pretty amazing groups at the slower end. The trade off is that the gun won't fully cycle. It will extract and eject, but it won't lock the bolt back.

The non-locking backi happens at both ends of the spectrum.

I'm trying an H2 buffer tomorrow (it currently has an H3 buffer, which is from the factory).

Got her set up like I think I want it.
I've only put some Hornady 165gr SST bolt gun deer loads through it so far. Getting 1 to 1.5 MOA with the load.
Going to spend some time shortly working up some 175gr SMKs.

Tb- sorry, I didn't get you were having a short stroke problem. I thought you were dealing with over gassing, and wanted to slow the recoil impulse.
I had some Varget/123gr. .260 loads that would not fully cycle the action.

Yeah I got it figured out today.

Turns out that was my fault, surprise surprise. I was using summer lube in cold weather, which gummed up the works. Today was a bit nicer weather (55*) and I stripped out all that thick stuff. I went back to stuff that just a little bit more fluid, regardless of the temp.

Problem solved.

I've found a pretty good load for the 175s from my 16"CL. I'll try to post the info tomorrow.
I've been able to find great accuracy with the following so far:
168SMK, 168 A-Max, 175SMK, and the 178 A-Max. I'm working on the 168 Berger Classic Hunter.

Here's an update to the above mention of a 175gr SMK load. My load consists of:
FC case- fully prepped.
Fed 210M primer
43.5gr of Varget
COAL of 2.800

This load gets me 2470 FPS with the 16" CL barrel. I'm not sure if this is a hot load for the .308, but it cycles fine through my MWS.

This is MY load for MY rifle, so please work up to this data.

Can I swap an A2 stock assembly from one of my AR15 lowers directly on to my MWS or will I need to change any of thr componants to AR10-specific varients?

I have some Varget loads worked up now for the 175 SMKs.
Starting with 43.0 up to 44.00.
Waiting on the weather to break and the time to do it.

We'll see what happens.

What spring and buffer combo are you using with the A2 setup?

The receiver extension is the same as the AR15 A2 rifle length extension, correct?

I havent reloaded for mine yet but Im shooting some reman with a 168 Nosler CC and the 16 inch CL does fine. Brass is mil, powder is Varget velocity is posted at 2600.

I have a bunch of 168 CC to use when I start making my own but Im interested to try some 155's as I have seen a few references that owners have found it to be the most accurate in their 16" CL LMT .308's.

For those of you with multiple 308 barrels what are your doing for the bolt/BCG? Are you reusing the same bolt/BCG for all of your barrels?

I know for my LMT MRP CQB I keep a dedicated bolt for each barrel. Since LMT doesn't sell the BCG components separately for for the MWS I am curious what the best solution is.

You should be able to use a JP bolt and reuse the MWS carrier. All Armalite / DPMS guns use the same extension . I have not run another carrier in mws since they are both gen two and have the little extra material on the bottom of the carrier tail to interface with the lower (so they don't tilt). What caliber are you switching to? Last time I spoke with Gene at LMT, he said that would ask the boss about spare parts like extractors and bolts becoming available for sale. Gen 1 BCG's are the same as current KAC units and 100% compatible and any other complete assembly will work too from JP, Armalite , Fulton or DPMS .

Are any other BCGs compatible with the MWS? I know a DPMS pattern BCG will fully close in an MWS, but I am reluctant to pull the trigger on a live round.

For sure, you can use the jp 308 bolt or bcg. The kac for sure as well. Not sure about lwrc. Paul was ousted or "left" years ago and I haven't attempted to check fit of my repr bolt in my MWS rifles. I wasn't aware LWRC still made DI bcg's?

I know you can buy their bolts but since the repr is op rod not DI, obviously the carrier isn't compatible. I do like the repr carrier though.

I'm not talking about LWRC but his new venture.

Nice, mine is almost an identical twin to yours. I have a question for you, are you getting a good cheek weld with the scope being mounted so low? I had mine mounted low like yours and I would have to slam my face to the acs stock to get a good sight picture, ended up getting higher rings.
