Found my way into a 6 BR lefty setup. Started picking up supplies before laying hands on the rifle. It has a Schnieder barrel, McMillan stock (think it's an Edge), bedded for a Rem 700 long action (downside). Feeding is requiring a bit of work. Sometimes it's no issue, other times, doesn't feed. Working to determine the rhythm needed.
Question for the 6 BR shooters, should I just dump the action and stock and go for a short action? Have parts on order for the Bryant mag box mod and will see if that helps. If I moved to a short action, I'd like to keep the barrel. It shoots pretty sweet with the few that I put through at the range feeding one at a time. Thinking I could sell the action and stock together. This will be a hunting rig with a small amount of range use.

Speaking from experience my Remage 6br in a SA 700 has no feeding issues out of a modified magpul mag. I think the extra space in the LA is going to give you fits in the long term unless you really want to tinker and are somehow able to keep the rounds close to the chamber while still in the mag. Perhaps putting a large spacer in the rear of the mag but then the feed lips may release the round too soon. My SA required no modification other than the ejector rod to get 100% ejection so I say ditch the concept, keep the LA for a different project, and go to a SA for the 6BR.

I was running a PVA barrel on a Ruger precision with 12rd MDT mags. mags are specifically made for the 6BR family.

run the bolt like a man and zero issues.

running a 6BR on a long action just doesnt make any sense

if its a remage barrel then you could get a short action and sell the long action and stock

if it's a shouldered barrel the whole setup is basically someones funny joke, or you can run it as a single feed forever

My 6BR, in a Remington SA, will barely feed reliably, so I cannot imagine trying to get any kind of reliability from a long action.

Like Dale264 said, you may want to try extending the magazine feed lips somehow.

I’d be tempted to sell the whole package to someone who does care if they can magazine feed and get a SA. This sounds like a real PITA when 6BR definitely doesn’t need to be.

If you’re really in love with the barrel, have it set back/re-shouldered to the new action and it will likely be OK.

Have it punched out to 243 and sell it.

Any halfway decent barrel done by a competent smith in 6mmBR will shoot far beyond most peoples ability level so don't be concerned that the next one won't because you have a high degree of certainty the next will.

An easy recipe is a Bighorn Origin action to start with, and a pre-fit barrel with nut. A person can spend much more $ on a rifle without much, if any, improvement. From there add whatever else suits your budget.

I have a $370 pre-fit 6mmBR on my Mausingfield that is stupidly precise.
