Looking for some advice re smart watch
Has anyone come across a good watch app for shooting?
mainly for the for the information Alt/Baro/temp and GPS location
Just got Samsung watch and can’t seem to find good watch face showing the parameters

I got my Casio WR100M which does temp/baro/alt but not GPS for $40 and I only need to change the battery once every 3-4 years instead of charging the shit every couple days.


Smart watches are supposedly smarter than mine, but don't do what mine does. Smart watches aren't that useful in the real world, IMO.

only use it for daily shoots as you say battery life sucks but might be fine for light trips save taking all my other gear ?

I really like my Garmin 235. Although it pulls that info from your phone but I think the 535 does it all on the watch or atleast the KUIU version made by Garmin does

Are you going to be not bringing your phone with you as well?

I haven't found a good GPS app that I like for displaying all the data you mentioned with the watch by itself & no phone around.
I use one of the running apps that logs the GPS data and then you can send it to your computer/phone to superimpose on a map.

I'm guessing maybe you could download the development SDK from Samsung and work on making your own?

But on your phone, I find the GPS Status app to be a perfect solution to display all the information you listed as wanting.

Generally the Casio will give you enough info to get a firing solution, but not your mapping. But if you want active mapping and tracking the Garmin 5X is hard to beat. Weeks between charges -- unless you mapping continuously.

I have had the Suunto X10 for a couple of years. Still not sure I like it; a little bulky and IF you keep the GPS active rechargeable battery life is 1/2 - 1 day.; uses a common MAINS charging device. Does all the functions mentioned.

I never trusted watches to give me temperature. Had one a few years back and it was always 10+ degrees hotter than it actually was due to being attached to my body/body heat.

Have they improved on this?

Mine just tells me the time and date. Must be time to upgrade.

I believe so, several of my digital/smart watches give temp, and they are usually within a degree or two of actual ambient.
