Looking into a GAP-10

I'm looking at ordering a GAP-10 as a designated sniper platform for a LEA. I see the reviews around here are pretty favorable, and the price can't really be beat. I looked at KAC, but I really don't think I can justify the price. I will be going to my first Precision Rifle school later this year. I'm looking for a little advice since this is pretty new to me.

We are currently running 700p's, but looking for a semi-auto alternative. Typical shooting distance will be between 100-300 yards, but can be up to 600 max in school. I need a gun than is relatively lightweight, and easily transportable, but capable of MOA/sub-MOA accuracy.

I am considering a GAP-10 with an 18" bbl, switchblock and PRS stock, but I'm looking for input. Anybody happen to weigh theirs in this configuration?

The JP-07 is lighter than the GAP-10 and it's just as accurate. Just a thought.

There are several custom AR platforms in the current marketplace. Consider when you need the rifle by and look at build times per manufacturer. I love my GAP-10. Most days the rifle is better then me. Deff not a bad choice. Customer service is of the best.

Gap-10 has a 10 Month build time, maybe longer, at the moment in the current climate. Consider that, being that you have a precision school later this year. You may have to postpone the shool, or go with another platform. POF P308 may be an option, but they only come in a 16 and 20". Sub MOA Accuracy out of mine. There are a lot of good manufacturers in that same price range that will do the job with less wait time. But, Gap seems to be doing it the best.

I'm in a similar boat. My Agency is sending me to school in April. I'm really wanting a semi auto for a quicker follow up shots. With the market the way it is I finally just decided to take my Remington 700 to school, and wait for what I really want.

So I dropped a deposit on a Gap-10 yesterday. It's gonna be a long 10 months!

Thanks for the info guys. I've been looking into several manufacturers, and some offer slightly shorter lead time for agency purchases. If I have to postpone the school, I will.

What length bbls are you guys running on your GAPs and how did you determine the correct length for your application? Any overall weight information?

I'm running a 17" barrel on my GAP-10. It's a great gun and every bit as accurate as my bolt guns. Buy with confidence.

Too bad more cops in Cali don't think this way I run into way too many who go "...I can't believe anyone can own those things!"

Wait times for all the big names will be long right now, you might find a deal on a used weapon but I doubt it. Also none of those 'big names' are especially lightweight either, probably 10-12lbs for each one.

GAP, Larue, APA, there was a guy on here jocking the PWS piston rifles, I'm sure there others but I can't think of them at the moment.

After owning a few 308 ARs I'd go with a 16" for what you are talking about. It will still be accurate and make enough velocity for those slightly-longer shots on the range but will be a bit more compact so easier to set up and position in different places. Maybe even a 14.5" with whatever suppressor you plan on using along with your SEVEN ROUND MAG lol.

When I contacted KAC, they also recommended the 16". I have to admit, I am a little concerned at reaching out to 600 with a 16". I know that's nothing crazy, but keep in mind, this will all be pretty new to me.

If you find yourself needing more than a 16" odds are you will need more than a 20" as well. My 16" was about 2450fps with a 175smk and that was the accuracy load not the hot load.

LMT MWS with their stainless barrel should be on your list as well it's a shooter.
