I had a sad wife and a happy dog last night. I heard something hit my front window so I went to check it out and saw feathers stuck to the window. Didn’t see anything obvious and sometimes they just bounce off and fly away so I put my dog on the leash, brought her out front and told her “Dead bird, find it” to see what would happen.
She proceeds to sniff around real hard then dove in the bushes and came out with a dead juvenile Cardinal, which is the wife’s favorite bird. So now the wife is sad that one of her baby birds died but the dog is happy because she got to retrieve a dead bird.
I didn’t take a picture of her with the cardinal but here is her with a different bird for reference. She was definitely gentle about it, if it hadn’t died on impact her retrieving it certainly wouldn’t have made it worse.
Ended up burying the cardinal in the yard to make the wife less sad about losing one of her favorite birds at her feeder.
