I have one like that but I can't remember what it is called. I got in 1993 and it was a mark v action with a pencil barrel and a plastic stock. Mine was in 300 wby. It had an aluminum floor plate. I still have my action but I got it rebarreled by rifles Inc and have a McMillan stock on it. If I remember correctly it was a budget mkV when the next level gun up was the fibermark. The gun below it was the vanguard.
Mine is a laser. Everybody told me you could not make a 300 wby accurate in 1993. Rifles Inc was the only gunsmith I could find to work on it. They installed a thick top of the line stainless barrel and a new stock and it is awesome except it kicks like a mule. I still have the aluminum floor plate on my gun.
I think it was just called a mk v. I saved my pennies and bought the mk v stainless in 1990 when I was getting ready for my 1st sheep hunt. I have killed everything with that 257. Of all the guns I own it is the one I'll be buried with. 75 grains h1000 and 110 accubond.
