Registration for the June 23 Mason Dixon Sniper Series match (Seven Sunday's of Sniping) is open.

We welcome bohem as our guest match director for this match. Since he is the only one that will know the CoF he has to comment on round count, equipment, etc. Any questions on this please post so he can answer after he develops the CoF or PM him with other questions or issues. You can still contact me for registration issues. That is the only portion of this match I am handling.

I've viewed and reviewed the CoF for the final time. Total round count, if you "get your money's worth" is 58 rounds.

Make sure you have a calculator for the event. (A mil-dot master isn't going to cut it, I promise you)

Otherwise, there's no equipment that is atypical, anything "goofy" will be provided. Be prepared to move with a pack and rifle.

I understand some folks have longer drives, however, giving 15 minutes of assistance pulling targets and packing up backers and steel plates by everyone will cut down the time that Freddy, Chris and I spend doing it alone. I'm not going to add scores up until the place is packed up, so if you're going to wait around to find out how you finished please chip in and help put stuff away.

I had a LOT of fun putting this together and really enjoyed having shooters thinking on the line and making shots that they ordinarily would have said "no way". The Hellbender solution hinges on the idea that shooters provided with the linear displacement of each target (except for the first and last ones, they were an angular displacement). The shooter then needed to take the information and turn it into an angular displacements that needed to be converted) :

0 to 1:
Left 7.972 MOA --> shooting MOA, just dial L8.0, Shooting mrad, 7.972/3.343 = 2.385mrad, shoot L2.4
Up 2.9965 mrad --> shooting mrad, just dial +3. Shooting MOA, 2.9965*3.343 = 10.02MOA, shoot +10.0

That's the idea for the angular call. It was a simple conversion.

The difficulty came in at 2 to 3 because you had to know a little about cartridges.

2 to 3:
2.841 x Diam of 30c bullet --> 2.841*.308 = 0.875"
Now that needs to be converted to angular offset.
0.875"/(1.047" per MOA @ 100) / (50yd/100yd) = 1.67MOA shoot 1.75MOA
In mrad that's 1.75/3.343 = 0.53 mrad

Left 2.144*"length of 223 Rem in NATO terms" (5.56x45mm) -->2.144*45mm = 96.5 mm
96.5 mm / 25.4 mm/in = 3.8 inches
3.8 in = 7.26 MOA & 2.17 mrad

Next is straightforward, units are inches, they need to be converted to mrad and/or MOA

4 to 5:

14.17 iphy up

14.17*1.047 = 13.53 MOA or 4.05 mrad

Josh - Great match and a lot of fun. Would look forward to you being a guest MD again (loved the two running stages).

One comment on the Hellbender stage, it seems to me that for the first shot, you also needed to make an adjustment for shooting 50yards. In the case of my rifle, it is .3mil up. So for target 1, I dialed 3.3mil up.

Shrek, this was all you baby. You work hard, always have your head in the game, and it shows. I was watching you shoot the pop-ups and could call the hits through those steiner bino's when the bullet was only halfway there. Looked like a cheeseburger flying through the air.

I had a fantastic time. It was really bizarre for me to shoot a match there and not run it. I felt like I forgot something on the way home without a giant scoresheet of numbers to add up. hahaha

But I would totally do it again! Thanks bohem for giving me a break. Not every shooter can handle the transition to MD. It is NOT the same as shooting a match at all. The amount of organizational skill required, and the attention to detail necessary to prosecute a match have narrowed this field down to very few.

The stages were excellent. Favorite ones were the range walk, and get to the choppah. I've decided I'm going to just shoot the entire series with my .223 AR15. I enjoy shooting that rifle a lot.

Can you tell us what model they were and what mount you used? For me those things are groundbreaking in terms of spotting scopes. Absolutely the best spotter I have ever used, hands down. You could see trace from 200-600 with ease.

You and me both, I've never seen such clarity. Trace was highly impressive but the most impressive part was the resolution. The clarity for being able to resolve individual 30c holes at 1/3 mile was definitely a first for me.

Military 20x80 | Steiner -- The Binocular-Specialists

The mount that I used is one made by Steiner as well, I don't know if they're a standard with this pair of Bino's but they are certainly readily available as I just needed to ask and they supplied one for me. The tripod was a piece of personal equipment that I've used for quite some time.

Steiner has some great glass to say the least, most people do not give them enough credit. The only problem for most is they are some heavy SOB's!

I had a good time dispite my plagued ammo, all FC brass is scrap now, LOL.
COF was challenging and fast paced, different than what ive been to in the past. The Hellbender was great it made me think and now i have to reshoot it on my own to understand what i did wrong.

The 400yd "dash" stage was too damn funny, every good deed right LOL. Least you know there are good people.

Overall it was a fun match, thanks to Josh for steppin into the grinder.

Great job on the match, it was a lot of fun and challenging too. And thanks Freddy for allowing Josh to step up and run the match, it's always good to have more match directors in the mix, keeps the flavor of the matches fresh.

The next match at Mayberry will also feature a guest director, James Bailey has graciously offered to plan the course of fire and run the match. He's a math wiz too, but he assures me that after Josh's stage his arithmetic will seem easy. James is also in excellent shape and loves a good physically demanding stage (I think he ran a full lap of the archery range yesterday and still beat most of us back to the firing line). I'm sure it will be a good one. Hope to see you all there.

Thanks for a great match. It was a lot of fun to see someone else's ideas for the stages. The mind games were a treat too. I had a great time, and I'll be back for more.

And to Matt's point above about the 50 yard offset - it helps to go the right direction! Instead of adding my 50 yard come UP, I subtracted, which doubled the error. All of my hits were low. It's the simple things that trip us up under pressure, isn't it?

It was good seeing everyone again and I look forward to the next match!

Yeah - JB is no joke and is not afraid to hoof it fast and far with weight on his back.

You can see after James starts running that at a certain point the "10th mountain" kicks in and he becomes a freight train.

Steve - I'm very happy to have up and coming MD's in both programs. I have some intel that Shrek might be getting his feet wet too.......
