There used to be a time when it wasn’t okay to sleep with trafficked 17 year old girls but I guess that time is over. It will be pure poetic justice if Mr. Gaetz is confirmed and then uses ALL the powers of the DoJ to perform an investigation into the individuals on the ethics committee (and their staff) to determine which of them leaked confidential information for political gain. I am sure that full prosecutions and jail time will be warranted for whatever criminal activities come to light (related or unrelated to the initial investigation)...

.I lean in the direction of it being a legit nomination. Gaetz had to resign from his seat in order to move forward. He's a sharp guy. He's not going to make that move unless he has rock solid assurances that he has an even bigger seat at the table (whatever/wherever that may be). Now whether or not those assurances are actually rock solid, remain to be seen.
If indeed the repubes will cooperate with "recesses" and Trump can appoint Gaetz that way, then all is good. But, I have seen talk that some repubes/RINOs may "refuse" to recess. thune was a very poor choice for Senate Majority Leader and he may refuse to call a recess. In which case, I guess Vance would have to step on thune's neck to make it happen. In that regard, there are some loose ends associated with all of this and I commend Gaetz for taking this leap of faith. Him being confirmed seems pretty unlikely and the road to being appointed by Trump doesn't seem to be free of some potholes. But, I think Trump will be successful with a recess appointment.

My personal take is that the republicant party is just controlled opposition. When a bill comes up that needs to be tanked (behind closed doors) they decide who's going to vote with the Democrats to tank that bills passage. They use people that are not up for reelection or in a district that doesn't have a good showing for mid term voting. Especially where the people have short memories and don't hold them to account.

Personally think it's a mistake to pick Gaetz he'll be hard to confirm and they lose a congressional seat (potentially, it's a red county but Republicans can ALWAYS fuck up an easy win).
Trump selected Gaetz so he could resign from Congress mere days ahead of an investigation report being released that would undeniably prove he was at a sex party with a 17 year old. Resigning from Congress stopped the investigation and allows them to request the files be sealed.
