Re: MN member checking in!

They dont have a web site you just have to keep visiting back hear for info...its more like a "good ol boy shoot" than anything......no really a "match"

I know what you mean about the screen door sound...drives me nuts too......Ive always wanted a 7.62 AR....how is the accuracy with it? Im deer hunting with the M14 Bush this year again....its fairly accurate but the soft points Im using this year get badly deformed when chambered....therefore the accuracy kinda sucks....she is giving me about 1MOA+......Im going to have to use a different projectile for next year....Im still very impressed with the light gathering ability of that cheap SightMark scope.....

Re: MN member checking in!

Hey longrange, you need to shoot one of these things! The 7.62 AR's are a blast literally! Here is mine I just finished building up:

Re: MN member checking in!

It is doing pretty good, I had some issues out here in CO running it suppressed not wanting to group well but that was some cheap factory ammo and since we can't run suppressors in MN I am not worrying about it yet...

You guys need to play with one of these PVS-27's that we are selling now! Absolutely Positively Fooking AWESOME!!!

Re: MN member checking in!

Adam,

Pretty nice! I decided after a year I couldn't keep my hands off an AR anymore so I bought a built up lower (missing busttstock is all) and then got an unbelievable deal on a LMT upper. Stainless, 1-8" twist 5.56 Chamber. For under 5

'Course most of that cost was offset by a Win 75 that I never shot. So it worked out.

Anyhow:

Re: MN member checking in!

I've been waiting to hear the hunting stories from the MN guys on here. I got skunked here in WI so far. I've decided to take a doe in late season bow to fill the freezer, can't eat the antlers anyway i guess. I missed a chance at a dandy in bow season, it would have been the biggest on my wall by far.

Re: MN member checking in!

Man don't ya just hate that.... Wacked a doe for the freezer, now out with the muzzleloader to see if any antlered foe has survived...

Re: MN member checking in!

I've seen afew shooter bucks out bow hunting but nobody wants too cooperate with me...
got 2 does with the rifle here, 2 antelope does, and a big cow elk in WY.

needless to say the freezer is FULL, time to start making sausage and jerky this weekend

Re: MN member checking in!

The first rifle shoot of the 2009-2010 season at the West Branch Gun Club in Princeton, MN
is scheduled for Sunday December 13th.

The remaining 6 shoots are on the following Sundays:

January 3rd
January 24th
February 14th
March 7th
March 28th
April 18th

Any shoot postponed for inclement weather will be rescheduled one week later.
Postponements will be determined by weathermen Greg Wahlstrom and Steve Hoskins.

Also, any non-member paying a $10.00 range fee during the week prior to a shoot will
receive a voucher for a $5.00 reduction in the range fee at the shoot. Make sure you ask
for the voucher at the time you practice because we will have no idea if you were at the
range.

A slight increase in shoot fees may be necessary due to food costs, range repair and material
expenses, but if attendance is good we should be able to avoid any raise in fees.

We also have acquired a second heated trailer for a warming house and target/equipment storage. This should reduce crowding in the scoring trailer in cold weather.

Hope to see you at the shoots. Get your kitchen passes lined up.

Re: MN member checking in!

Yea I just got that email also. Sorry, I have a hard time paying even MORE after last years price hick for such shitty service from he range owner and the match directors.... Really not worth the drive.....

Re: MN member checking in!

My thoughts too but people wanted to know so I threw the info out here, hell if we get snow again we may not even be able to get to the range cause they can't take a few minutes to plow the damn place out!
wink.gif

We should see what Slayer has going up in P-Town! He was talking about a 1k range he was working on or maybe when Marty gets done in the fields we can go do a weekend shoot over there.

Hell if people want to drive we can make a cabin run to my place and do some shooting up there too!

Adam

Re: MN member checking in!

Thanks for the post Adam. I don't know how much you guys are used to paying for a match but I didn't think this one was too bad...compared to other entertainment. But, as you said if the price went up and the snowplowing goes down it won't be a factor.

Re: MN member checking in!

Do any of you guys need any CCI BR2, 400, or 35 50BMG primers? I just got notice I have some available if I want them that I ordered back in january...

Oh, and there are a couple cases of 50BMG Hodgdon 8lb jugs on there as well...

Re: MN member checking in!

I won't make the first shoot as I am being paid to bang steel in Hawaii for the next two weeks, government provided guns and ammo at PTA on the big island. Adam, that is what I was in dire need of ammo as the provided M118 LR was real bad.

I should be at the shoots after that.

Re: MN member checking in!

Hey guys, I am going to go to the range in Nowthen and shoot their match instead! $15 to shoot, 60 rounds @ 300 meters, electronic scoring, heated shooting area, what more can a guy ask for?It also does not take all day.
wink.gif

Give me a call or drop me an email if you want more info!

Adam

Re: MN member checking in!

sounds like fun but I'd rather shoot in the wind @ 500...perfecting the skills ya know. 'Course it ain't easy shooting offhand @ 300m. 20 shots. open sights.

Edit:

That's my understanding of 300m. 20 shots standing, 20 kneeling, 20 in the prone, and open sights.

Re: MN member checking in!

Well the shoot in Princeton was COLD! but it went well, and was a lot of fun
smile.gif

My final score ended up at 265, what did you guys have?

thanks again for letting me try out your 6BR Marty, I measured my group with that and came up with 1.530" @ 500yds, I didn't think that was too bad for being shot in the dark...good thing your S&B has an illuminated reticle
wink.gif

If you want to I think I will order a barrel and have you fit it for me when you get time...

Re: MN member checking in!

I'm not sure if I broke 200 or not. Not great at all but for the first time shooting that load out to 500 even hitting the paper wasn't too bad. I had a lot of low scores where I was centered but a MOA or two low on the long shots. I held wind pretty good. I got one five and one minus 5 by dropping one shot and not holding enough wind. The minus 5 was just below the line. Of course the double jam and a miss on the unkown was a real killer.

and those jam ups were brutal on your score, most people had issues with that stage because they went too fast, most of them are definitly not used to shooting that way and don't use the "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" method, I just took my time and ended up with 3 12's on that one. the distance on the unknown was 340yds too if you didn't know. It also definitly helps to have a repeater on that one...

Did you go shoot that 300m match Adam?

Steve

Re: MN member checking in!

Coundn't make it out to the Sunday shoot, it was the last day for putting meat in the freezer. I did take a small doe the last day of muzzleloader, and then a decent doe Sunday with the rifle so we're set till next year. I should be able to make the next shoot when ever that is, the 2nd?

Re: MN member checking in!

I ended up working... Dammit... Seems people keep ordering and I have to keep shipping! I also have company in from Virginia for the next couple of weeks to paint my car so everything is hectic around here!

If any of you are interested I just got some primers in that I ordered in January:

20k CCI BR2
5k CCI 400

Then I have a ton of Lapua 223 brass and a few boxes of 308 Lapua if anyone needs any give me a shout or drop me a line.

Re: MN member checking in!

Steve,

I ended up with a 199. I went back and figured what I was hitting to get to 500 and it was 10.5 not the 8.8 I had calculated. Which explains why I was a little low all day. I re-calculated the BC @ .329 instead of .429 and those drops came out to pretty much what I was hitting.

Re: MN member checking in!

Austan, sounds like it's on the 3rd. I talked to Marty the other day. I'm going to try and get back to make it to that match. I'm sure if I go it will be colder than a witches tit..Just makes it more fun.

Re: MN member checking in!

I know a guy that knows aguy with an anealing machine
cool.gif

I don't know if you've met Steve Hoskins at the shoots, but a freind of his has one, and I know he does some anealing for other people...

I don't know if you've tried this but I just use 650* tempilaq heat paint and a torch, just chuck up your brass with a lee case trimmer shellholder and spin it in a drill so you don't get brass flow, and heat the neck/shoulder junction until the heat paint crystalizes, then dip it in water, seems to work really well for me...

Re: MN member checking in!

any of you guys ever run a 6XC? I can't friggin' make up my mind on what I should chamber my Kreiger 6mm #19 1-7 barrel in that i've got coming...I was thinking 6mmbr because I was so impressed with Marty's, but I would'nt mind having a little more speed like the XC or 6x47L, don't really want to go as extreme as a 243 either for the barrel life factor
confused.gif
can you guys make up my mind for me?

Re: MN member checking in!

I've built a few for others and ran a 6X47 Lapua for a while, more on the 6's later, gotta go for now.

Decent weather and some spare time now so I've been getting in some trigger time. I bought a lightly used Winchester 70 Heavy Varmint in .223 that I've been working up long range and varmint loads for, sure shoots the 75 GR A-Max verry well for a factory gun, about an 8.6 twist in the barrel. Threaded it for a suppressor, cut a good crown on it and have been haveing a blast (or lack of) shooting. The SAS .30 cal suppressors work verry well on the .223, like shooting a .22 short.

Steve </div></div> Yea I've thought of using the templaq, but I just don't trust myself with it.... No I guess I can't think of who Hoskins is... Your talking about the Princeton shoots right?

Re: MN member checking in!

yeah from the princeton shoots, If your using that templaq you really can't screw up, as soon as it melts your there and you dip the case in water...not much of a chance for error there, try it out its way easier than most make it sound

Re: MN member checking in!

I just used a propane torch and looked for color change. Dipped in water when hot. I'm annealing the 25 WSSM. So far I'm less than impressed with the last brass that I got from Winchester. {Edit:} Previously, I've gotten 5-6 loadings from this without annealing. The last two bags of Winchester brass showed external cracking after two firings on some of the brass. I annealed a bunch of it and still see some cracking when resizing.

Anyhow, I went to minimal neck sizing with a Wilson die. Maybe that'll help.

If you want to ride with, I'll come out to Hastings and pick you up. Or, you can meet me at my house. I'm straight West of you on 160th (County 46/47). Lemme know.

Re: MN member checking in!

South Metro here. But, I go up on 494 to 94. North on 101 @ Rogers that turns into 169 @ Elk River. Follow that through Princeton to the second Princeton exit (hwy 95). Go left. If you get there before 0800 there may still be guys having coffee or breakfast at that restaurant there. If not you go 1/4 mile or so to county 31 (100 Ave.) and turn right (North) and go to 40th st. About 4 miles. Hang a left and the first right is the gravel pit we shoot in.
