Re: MN member checking in!

yeah its been postponed until the 10th, the low sunday is supposed to be -8, the plan they came up with is it has to be above zero when the match starts...oh well I can wait a week

Re: MN member checking in!

Yep,

Even though I was there when we said 0 or colder anytime during the shoot was too cold, I'm going to miss shooting this weekend.

So much in fact I went out to the range in the 5mph wind in sub-zero temps. It was cool (pun intended) because I shot @ 100 and 200 to verify drops the other day but I ran out of daylight. So I dailed the scope back down to 100. I dailed it up to 300 today and fired. 3" R. Didn't hold for wind. So I held for 5 mph wind twice and nailed two right in the 1" center circle. Awesome. I've got the 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 all nailed. Now I just need to see how much I should play with when dialing in the unknown.

Re: MN member checking in!

I think I was the only one of us at this one, it went great.
The weather was awsome, I think I ended up in 3rd because somebody hit 2 bonus bulls on the last target, otherwise I would've taken 2nd, i'm excited to get my 6XC done so I can get a little bit more competative , still haven't made up my mind on a stock yet, might go manners...

The next shoot is on the 24th, hope to see some of you there

Re: MN member checking in!

Good shooting Steve. I hope to be at the next one. I went over what I did and I figured I could pick up at least 57 points if I didn't make the same mistakes I made last time. All stupid stuff, especially the unknown. I figured getting 30 pts. instead of 3 0's.

I'll have my 'poop in a group' next time.

So far as I know, it's on.

Re: MN member checking in!

Not for me but it is supposed to be above zero for a change, maybe they'll have a go. Did you get your brass annealed? I was thinking if you hadn't, there is a fella that does it along with ultrasonic cleanig for 20 bucks a hundred.

Re: MN member checking in!

Yea Greg did a great job on them! I finally have this weekend off and have been working brass and reloading. Sould have something together my the end of the weekend... Hopefully my new scope hurry's up and gets here dammit!

This is a really late response, but if everyone in Minnesota could watch this so I would stop getting weird looks in the parking lots in my Subey. That would be great.

Anyone in MN ever heard of a 3-gun competition during the summer? Gotta get my feet wet somehow...

Re: MN member checking in!

I've been looking at the ones from '09, are they the same weekends in 2010? I guess I might have to call DPMS and check it out further...
I've never been up to their ranges, what kind of distances and whatnot do they have? Ahlman's has always been my target range, but they only have sighting in really, and i've only been behind the store a few times from the Shooter's Roundup, seems like they have a few places back there where you can shoot some steel.

Yeah that sucks, it was a little chilly early on but it wasn't too bad most of the day, we were all finished by about 4pm.

Sandwarrior, what did you end up with for a final score?
Mine was 280, I almost find it hard to believe that was enough to win...either way I won't complain 1st is 1st

Re: MN member checking in!

what make is that DMS, Austan?
thats a pretty good looking stick!

I just orderes an HS Precision M24 vertical grip stock for my 280AI, and i'm trying to decide what bottom metal to go with, i'm really leaning towards CDI, what do you guys suggest?
And do any of you know how difficult it is to tweak an AI mag to feed a 30-06 based round?

Steve

Re: MN member checking in!

Steve, it's a CDI DBM to run the new AI223 mags. I like it and will probably get another one for the wifes 223 sometime down the road. I think I'll just send Jeff the stock for inletting. Hard to beat for 60 bucks.

Re: MN member checking in!

Yep, a little bit of wobble. I don't notice it with the mags loaded. It feels like alot but looking at it there dosent seem to be much of a gap there. I was wondering if it was because the mags are of the polymer 223 variety and not metal but I don't currently have any metal ones to try.

Re: MN member checking in!

Bitchin Rifle Austan!! We need to get out shooting again sometime, maybe head into town in the evening lol. Justin and I have his rifle working nicely, one big ragged hole at 100 as of yesterday. I think Justin is going to pick up a new scope and a bi-pod this month. We should be set to go.

Re: MN member checking in!

I figured the wobble would go away when the mag was loaded, I don't think its because of the polymer mag, i've heard others mention it that are using metal ones, but if thats the only problem i'll be sending my stock to Jeff as soon as it gets to me

Did you have him inlet yours? or did McMillan do it when you ordered it?

Neither, I bought this stock as a BDL inlet before I had decided what I was doing. This project started in Oct. '08. The introduction of the AI mags made me rethink a DBM. I did it myself at my buddies machine shop using a mill. I could have done a better job but I'm pretty particular, after all said and done the imperfections are small and not really a big deal. If I was doing it again, I'd send it to Jeff and if I were starting the project fresh I'd order the stock inletted from McMillan. It's been killin me not to shoot it but I'm making sure to let the paint cure on the stainless before abusing it. Wednesday I'll be out testing the initial loads. Mostly 75 amax with re-15 but I did load up some 70 and 75 vlds just in case I fall ass backwards into a perfect load out of the gate.

Steve</div></div>

Got a 210. Zero'd out on the unkown again and of course had the 'hot load' problem. Which was driving me nuts. Cost me ten on the 500 animal and five on the bull. I didn't try for the bonus bull at all. Which was smart. I didn't have that with a grain hotter load. Full size the cases this time. If they last. If they go to pot I may just load up my .30-06 with Nosler CC's and shoot that. I know I can't go wrong with it. It shot okay in the morning but just seems harder and harder to control with more rounds downrange. 5 reloads is about max for that case without annealing. When I annealed the first groups seemed good. Now, not sure what is going on....

BTW, that was some really good shooting Steve. Just stay on course and hit the center of the target and you don't have to worry about much. A guy usually hits one, maybe two, out of six on average of the bonus bulls. I did kind of feel bad for Shawn because he hit the bonus, couldn't see it, then shot for the main and hit that twice.

It'd be funnier if he didn't score higher than me. That 35 put him over me by 5 or ten points if I remember right.

I had the most fun messin' with Darryl about green olives.

I'm not a fan of green olives but they're something different on a pizza. Not bad really. So I teased him from lunch on about not wanting them on a pizza.

Re: MN member checking in!

Got an HS Precision M24 vertical grip for my 280AI, i'll put a pic up after I get it back from Jeff, I think i'm going to hit the barreled action with moly-resin too, probably just stay with flat black though nothing fancy...
