I-64 (Hampton-Norfolk). I'd bet on it. It wasn't out of the ordinary to have a semi plow into the ceiling on a bounce, then shut the entire tunnel down for hours. If you're right behind it, hopefully you're not claustrophobic.

I love claustrophobic people.
Stuck in a billion cubic feet tunnel and they lose their minds.

They are perfectly fine in a house or even a car...

Irrational fears. 😂

I'm okay as long as I'm not physically restrained. MOPP 4 was an exercise in mind control. If I'm ever placed in a straight jacket, I will be nuts...if I wasn't already. +

Because building it 18” higher would just totally throw the project into a tail spin.

I don’t get why they do stupid engineering shit like this.

It’s like these draw bridges in some parts of the US most if built ten feet higher wouldn’t have needed to be a draw bridge.

The current westbound tunnel from Norfolk to Hampton is the original tunnel constructed in 1957 and has a lower clearance than the newer eastbound tube built in the 1970s—13 ft 6 in (4.11 m) as opposed to 14 ft 6 in (4.42 m). Because of this, special over-height detectors have been installed near the Willoughby Spit end of the bridge alerting the truck driver to stop at the inspection station for a more precise measurement of the trucks height.

And of course because MPT:
