I’m not in to medicine in general …pain medicine in particular. That said , I wished I was given the option of taking anything stronger or not.
When they told me that ibuprofen would take care of the pain , it reminded me of a old saying “ don’t piss down my neck and tell me it’s raining”
Doctors are scared shitless to prescribe anything anymore..,.don’t want to get on the DEA’s shit list.

Shits bad, had a guy I know get surgery and end up in rehab because the meds they gave him.
Last I heard he was a year plus sober.
FUCK THAT SHIT! The VA had to pay a real surgeon to fix what one of their surgeons had fucked up and when I woke up post surgery I refused to take any of the pain pills that the nurses tried to give me. It got to the point that the nurses told the surgeon and he came to my room to ask me why I wouldn’t take any pain pills and I gave him my unfiltered opinion of opioids and said that the pain was preferable to getting addicted to that shit.

Full dose of Tylenol with a full dose of advil is the strongest non opioid pain killer available. That combo kept me out of surgery for an extra year and got me on my feet when I couldn’t walk otherwise.
It’s weird we look back fondly on when they were whores for the love of the game.
Everyone’s pain tolerances are different. I guess I’m more miffed by not having a choice because of others bad choices or issues.
My gf has seasonal allergies from Hell , and pseudoephedrine helps her. But since Methheads used to use it making it , everyone is penalized by making it so hard to get now. Your treated like a criminal for getting it. My gf doesn’t do drugs unless it’s an emergency….. I hear they don’t use it anymore making the shit , but the stigma remains and continues.

There is total scrutiny on opioid prescribing. 25 years ago they announced Pain as the new additional vital signI had a total knee replacement last month which can be VERY painful for days afterwards. I was sent home with 20 5mg Oxycodone tablets ….period !!
They didn’t even begin to dull the pain , much less give any relief. I asked the surgeons nurse why they lowball patients with pain meds when they know you’ll be hurting ??
Got the standard “ opioid crises” excuse. … I get it , but I’m 71 years old and never abuse drugs. Why the fuck do they even make them ??
Guess the drug reps aren’t greasing the doctors palms enough anymore ?
Every day you had to ask the patient what number on the scale of 10 was your pain.
Patient says 8. then what would you like it to be? Patient wants 0, so you had to keep medicating until it was zero and document it on the chart.
When hospitals were inspected for accreditation, they checked the charts to see if adequate pain control was prescribed.. thus the govt. basically created the crisis, and now the patient suffers because prescribers are being monitored by them. 180 degee reversal.
