Mg42 fires So fast the barrel Gets red hot. Cartridge galls or sticks in hot chamber and then gets hot from the barrel steel.
After about 10 seconds, the cartridge detonates. Never trust a hot belted with a cartridge in the chamber. Twist the belt so it can’t run away and wait!!

When that happens, does the case completely fail and shrapnel gets sent all over the place or just hot gas?

Actually, it was invented to make shoe leather palatable.
With that name, I would have expected Something more along the lines of this...

Invented in England to compete with the much tastier HP sauce (Houses of parliament) that was all the rage as sauces, chutneys and condiments were taking off in the uk.
Civil War had nothing to do with it. All about the new fad of Formal dining in early Victorian England.
Though I bet it would have been very popular with the troops trying to chew through salt pork, etc!

Thats my question is why mess up nature so bad just for a short lived thrill? I get it is an urban area and not completely natural. I also get they are probably pretty selfish and only thinking of how they want it to be for them, not the long term effects.
I will say, some of those glassy waves looked just perfect for me in my little playboat kayak. I could even get some tricks in a few places I bet.
