What’s out there that’s usable. Been looking at the Mark 4hd 2.5-10, but what other options are out there in the same price range or cheaper? Looking to put it on an 18” gas gun. A quick search on you tube, nets a ton of options, but I am not really trusting of most of the YouTubers.

I was looking at the pst gen 2, but seen many negative comments on here about them being junk. Are they not holding zero or tracking?

I have a pst gen 2 and it is pretty decent. The weight that everyone gripes about is mainly in the occular side and close to the rifle grip so doesn't mess with balance too much. Glass is decent. Huge 2x field of view. Generous eyebox. I also have SWFA 3-9 HD, Bushnell LRHS 3-12 so some decent glass to compare to. I have mine on a 16" home built AR. My shorter ARs have pst gen 2 1-6 and Steiner 1-4.

Get the Athlon Helos G2 2-12x42 and be happy. I am because I can plainly see the reticle on low power for fast and quick and also because the gun is a .75 moa AR the bullets will land inside the center dot out to 250Y when sighted in at the top of the center dot.

I like to use holdovers and holdoffs half the time and also like to dial so the turrets get worked too.

About the best MPVO there is for fast shooting on steel as well. It somewhat reminds me of a Red Dot or Prism sight but with more magnification.

How’s the tracking and holding zero?

The PST Gen 2 is a good scope, they were around $600 for a while and at that price were a great buy.

The EBR 2c and 2d reticles are both thicker than the 7c reticle which is nice for low magnification use.

I had a Helo 2-12 and the glass was considerably worse than my 3-15 PST.
The reticle in the Helos is better if you using less than 5x magnification a lot, and the locking turrets are nice.
I sold the Helos as the glass was worse than my Gen 1 PST 2.5-10 so I kept that instead.

When choosing an MVPO you need to decide what is most important to you, low magnification usability or high magnification. There are a few options in the market bit nothing that really does everything well, so need to decide what your priority is.

How’s the tracking and holding zero?

All has been good and I've had no complaints. Also the optics are decent in mine. Tracking - Elevation dialed on I've had a few cold bore hits at 1143Y.

Same scope at 1143Y and compared it side by side to my March 1-10 DFP and the Athlon has better IQ. I know that doesn't seem right but that's my experience. My March doesn't have great glass on 10x. I normally keep the March at 1x for home defense and the IQ is fine on low magnification.

Never had any issues with my gen2 pst scopes. Had three or four at one time, some I should have kept one but I felt I was trying to see different optics and move around brands some.

Have a NF 2-10x42 and it is a nice scope as well.

Had some LRHSi and LRTSi scopes in 3-12 and 4.5-18 and both models were great. Still run a 4.5-18 on my 22, debating on swapping it for a NF 4-32 just so I have better parallax options.

Got a Leupold MK4 3.5-10 and it is god as well, although a bit dated.

An 18 inch gas gun would do ok with any of the listed scopes as well as what others have said. I haven’t used any Athlon stuff yet, so can’t speak to that.
