I was asked by another member to share this FWIW. I have been using my CM like this ever since I got it and never really thought much about it. I noticed that it seemed to choke on extruded powders and overthrow. I found the McDicks straw mod online but that didn't seem sufficient as it was still too fast. To slow it down and even the flow, I took a straw and ran it all the way to the back and then cut a slit at the base of the feeder chute. I give Orkan credit for the slit invention.

I made a "restrictor" I found a ballpoint pen that just fit inside and cut a small slice of it about 3/8" long and inserted it into the chute exit about 3/4" from the end. This orifice will cause the kernels to "line up" to go thru it and not pile onto one another. I also found instructions (google) to reprogram the unit to allow the CM to enter it's "slow drop" phase sooner and stay in the "slow drop" trickle end mode longer. The results are a perfect drop every single time and within 1/10th to 1/20th of a grain.
This will slow down your drops big time!!! but for me accuracy is the game not speed. If you want fast just pull it out..
Sorry about the blurry pics..

It's worked extremely well for me. I will try to locate the programming instructions again as well.
With these machines it's either slow and accurate or fast and sloppy. The slower and more even the drop, the more accurate the result.

I also forgot to add that the feed rate can be increased or decreased by adjusting the size of the slit in the chute. I cut the slit using a cutoff wheel on the dremel. The size of the restrictor orifice doesn't really do too much to slow down the flow but makes the flow more even and causes the granules to go almost "single file" in two's and three's out the end.

Hmmm... heck of a thing...

or maybe this thread I posted here last year in response to the flurry of other less desirable methods?

WOW Orkan it looks like you had the exact same idea before I did!! I swear I never saw your post!! I read your posts, but I didn't see anything about adding a restrictor into the tube to cause the kernels to go single file.

I guess this is a new refinement on an old idea... By adding a restrictor into the tube at the right location, the kernels have to rearrange themselves to go thru it and now won't ever pile onto one another. When the kernels pile up is when you have the overthrows.

Gents -- sorry, but I guess I'm in my dense mode: I don't clearly understand where the "slit" is made, and what exactly do you mean by "feeder chute". I'd really like to get more precise powder feeding, but would like to understand exactly what I'm doing before hacking away. Thank you in advance for knocking the cobwebs out of my brain.
