Ryan,
Just let it go man. I understand taking the moral high ground but it may be misplaced here. Nobody on this website was downrange with these guys, so nobody here can say for sure what happened. Your argument is theoretical. Trail is over. And I understand you got pulled into this thread by guys doing a little victory dance but you took the bait. This is going to go 4+ pages and nobody is gonna budge.
I hope what this Gallagher situation, and ones like it, don't do is causes guys who have to make split second decisions, life altering or ending decisions, hesitation. That is the kind of shit that gets our sons and daughters a ride home in an aluminum coffin with a crisp new flag. Though it may sound callous I wouldn't trade one US life for all the 12 year olds in the Califate. If that means hard men have to do some unseemly things, I can live with that if they can.
I am not a combat vet, so I can't say how I would react to these situations. However, I spend enough time around guys who have been downrange dozens of times between them and I can say for sure , to a man, they agree the best laid plans can go to shit once you have round inbound. What would you doing if you had a 12 Y.O. bomber in your custody? What would you do if you saw a 14 Y.O. shoot one of your buddies and found him injured as you assaulted across the objective? I can't say, but I venture to say neither can anyone else who has not been in that position. Our warriors deserve the benefit of the doubt.
