I have a boat load of new Hornady 139 gr American Whitetail ammo. I have no shooters in the family and I don't want to die leaving the ammo in the garage for the wifey to deal with. I know that last sentence had a dangling preposition but didn't think you shooters would mind. Anyhow I need input on buying a new bolt action rifle in caliber 7mm-08. I prefer a stainless steel gun and 24" barrel as I live 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean. I do not want to spend more than $850. I know the economics are stupid but, I have been unable to sell the ammo since the "new darlings" of shooting sports have placed the 7mm-08 Remington on the DL. So, yes I would rather spend $850 shooting up 800rds of new ammo than leave it to my wife's next husband. I have dismissed Savage as I still have one of those "heavy bolt lift " rifles. At my age, when I go to the range I have to rent an 800lb gorilla and have him lift the bolt and extract the spent cartridge. It is not so bad buying a bushel of bananas to encourage the gorilla to work the bolt but, my god, cleaning up his fecal matter is a real back breaker not to mention the odor.
So, although most of you shooter spend that kind of money on scope mounts and rings, I would appreciate any sage advice by the cognoscenti. Many of you have recommended the Tikka lite, however in reviewing the ads I have found that they are misprinted. They are not 24 inch bbls. They are also youth models with a very short LOP stock.
